History

The island of Colerica was first discovered in 1760 by the famed explorer DeTaln DeSor. DeSor’s expedition brought him through the area that is presently the United Empire of Colerica. He visited the island of Isla Demonio, Isla Larga, Isla Mago, Isla Montaro, Isla De Plata, and the main island of Colerica. He planted the flag of Colerisar on the spot that is presently Keystone Point. He named the island Colerica after the Emperor of Colerisar, Coleden II.

After years of rule by the Colerisarians, Colericans became upset that they were a colony and much talk of a revolution spread throughout the island of Colerica. Then, it happened. On July 2nd, 1826, fifteen Colericans were gunned down by Colerisarian soldiers. This became known as the Alatsar Massacre. The then-twenty Colerican states were furious. They took up arms against the Colerisarians and fought for their freedom.

After six years of fighting, the Colericans finally won their independence from the Colerisarians in 1831. The Colerican Constitution was ratified on December 11th, 1831 and a new nation was born. The Constitution instilled an Emperor as the figurehead for the Colerican nation, similar to that of the Colerisarians. The states banded together and formed the United Empire of Colerica.

Also in 1831, shortly after the Colerisarians lost their war against Colerica, Emperor Coleden V was killed by his own generals and the nation collapsed into fifteen years of bloody civil war. It finally emerged under a new government, as a new nation. Formerly the Empire of Colerisar, it then became the Island Republic of Rilos.

For years, the United Empire of Colerica struggled amongst itself to garner more power. The third Emperor, Taldec Discel, made large land-grabs by uniting more states of Colerica into the United Empire. By 1874, all of the states within the main island of Colerica had united. The United Empire was flourishing under Emperor Pak Nevelle. The islands of Isla Demonio, Isla Larga, and Isla Mago were all annexed into the United Empire and became states. This period is commonly called the First Imperial Glory.

Another notable Emperor was Mesna Tal, who became Emperor after Pak Nevelle died on the throne (literally; he had a heart attack while sitting at his throne). He was only fourteen years old when he was voted Emperor in the ten-year elections, because of a fluke in the system. His older brother was supposed to run, but he was killed. His party had no one to nominate, save for his direct blood relative, which was Mesna. Mesna was an interesting Emperor: he was an open bisexual, he had seven wives and two husbands, he challenged four people to duels because they ‘insulted his honor,’ and cigarette smoking was banned from 1884 to 1933 because Emperor Tal was allergic to cigarette smoke.

In 1956, the Colerican Emperor Kydel Thra was challenged by a surprising chain of events. An upstart general in the Imperial Army, Quiden Serec, was threatening a coup. This is often referred to as the Four Days of Danger. For four days, Serec and an entire division of troops loyal to him laid siege to the Imperial Palace. The Colerican soldiers loyal to the Emperor defended the Emperor and General Serec was defeated during the fourth night of fighting.

Serec surrendered and the coup was over. Emperor Thra was furious. He enacted swift punishment. Every single one of Serec’s men, some nine thousand remaining soldiers, was hung. Serec, himself, didn’t share such an easy death. He had his eyes removed, his tongue cut off, and his fingers and toes cut off. He was then crucified on a large pole suspended from a five-story building overlooking Keystone Bay. He died a slow, painful death two days later. His rotting body remained there for one year until it finally was removed.

In 1976, more problems hit the UEC. A strong secessionist movement struck the island state of Isla Larga. The Emperor, Kydel Thra, was quick to end the movement by invading the island with two hundred thousand plus soldiers. The leaders of the movement were all executed. A young soldier was made famous during this conflict, a man by the name of Azben Koren. Koren brilliantly commanded his men and won international fame.

Among other small conflicts was the fifteen-day war that put down a slave revolt on Isla Montaro in 1980. Slavery was then abolished by Emperor Kalor Thra. Kalor saw slavery as un-needed in the United Empire and repealed a section of the Colerican Constitution.

A bizarre tragedy then struck the United Empire when Kalor Thra was suddenly assassinated during the night of June 5th, 1994. He had been stabbed to death. Kalor became only the second Emperor to ever be assassinated. A quick investigation was set up by his younger brother, Maderic, who served as the Lieutenant Emperor Pro Tempor. Maderic was quick to blame the assassination on Midel Tev, CEO of the UEC’s largest oil company. Tev had been an open opponent of Kalor for years. Maderic alleged that Tev had conspired to have Kalor murdered. Tev was arrested, trialed, and executed for the assassination of Emperor Kalor Thra.

Maderic Thra was then elected in the Imperial elections, winning 98% of the vote. Maderic banned elections shortly after. Maderic’s reign as Emperor started out good, but quickly became troublesome. In 1999, the rogue terrorist group, known as the Global Liberation Army, sent a hit-man to assassinate Maderic. The assassin was seized, interrogated, and executed. On January 4th, 2000, Magistrate of Justice, Jackson Ridge, was violently gunned down by GLA terrorists.

Emperor Thra announced a war on the GLA and the UEC proceeded to hunt down and eliminate thousands of GLA terrorists who had been in hidden terrorist cells, scattered throughout the UEC. The big catch finally happened when the UEC caught Eric Ledger, the leader of the GLA cells within the United Empire.

Following his capture, mass riots broke out within the United Empire. GLA terrorists and GLA sympathizers rose up in arms against the UEC. The UEC military was forced to crush the riots. The riots finally came to a close when Eric Ledger was put on trial, found guilty, and hung. This period is commonly known as the Eric Ledger Riots.

In 2003, two spies were caught in the United Empire. They were tracked back to a country within close distance of Colerica and the Colerica Imperial Intelligence Agency suggested that they were remains of the GLA supporters.

On August 19th, 2003, the IMS Montaro, a Colerican ocean-liner, was hit by a torpedo and sunk off the coast of Isla De Plata. 1,904 people were killed in the sinking. All fingers pointed to the Ma’dah ruling regime of Isla De Plata and its leader, Ayden Uraine. Uraine’s ruling family had been in power for scores of years and had horridly oppressed the Isla De Plata people for years.

The UEC leaped into action. Banding together with the nations of Zoogiedom, Tomzilla, and Huzen Hagen, the UEC led a Coalition that waged war with the Ma’dah and liberated the island nation.

In March of 2004, the Colerican state of Kally was rocked with a strong secessionist movement that was led by the radical secesh group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colerica (RAFC), led by Ruraq Kylaer. The UEC swept through the state with the Imperial Army’s 8th Infantry Division and the UEC presumed that it had quelled the secession attempt. They were wrong. In June, Kally’s Viceroy, Dem Chema, announced that the state had seceded from the United Empire. This sent shockwaves throughout the UEC. Imperial officials barked at each other, trying to hammer-out a sound plan of action. This was dubbed, by the Colerica Imperial News network, the Kally Secession Crisis.

The Kally Secession Crisis lasted through June. Then, it got worse. The state of Deviso, which borders Kally to the east, declared its secession, as well. Then came the states of Jaxuum and Loros. The four states banded together and on July 2nd, 2004, the Confederate States of New Colerica was born. It elected Ruraq Kylaer its Principle Director and pressed for international recognition. The states of Belser, Kardu, and Jicarr also followed suit, seceded, and joined the Confederacy.

The Confederacy was quick to build its military forces up, buying whatever she could from whoever would sell to her. The UEC called back large amounts of forces from Isla De Plata to reinforce the UEC. The UEC’s two closest allies, Zoogiedom and Tomzilla, pledged military aid incase of war. It looked as though war was unavoidable. Then, it happened. On July 24th, 2004, a strong force of Confederate soldiers attacked a small UEC outpost, Fort Rith, in the Colerican state of Gyzen and seized it, lowering the Bent N flag of the UEC and raising the Colerican Cross.

The United Empire was quick to respond. Magistrate of State, Kressi Thra, said, quote, "The Confederate States of New Colerica foolishly rejected the ultimatum with this cowardly attack on the United Empire's forces. There will be hell to pay. The UEC will never tolerate this outrage. You've made your grave, New Colerica, now prepare to lie in it."

Emperor Maderic Thra spoke that night in a stirring speech. Among the most famous passages of the speech was this:

“As per my orders, the military forces of the United Empire of Colerica have mobilized. My Magistrate of War, Xevven Jericho, has written a declaration of war which I have signed. The United Empire of Colerica is officially at war with the Confederate States of New Colerica. No longer will there be any appeasement through absurd ultimatums. No longer will there be any dancing around the issue at hand. This fight will be fought on the battlefield, not on the negotiating table. With the sword, not the pen. With blood, not ink. The United Empire calls upon its allies, Zoogiedom and Tomzilla, to draft declarations of their own and join us in this most noble of struggles. To preserve the United Empire, I pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor. May this bitter storm pass us quickly and may the Colerican citizens always remember to Believe. Obey. Fight."

The United Empire of Colerica saw its first ever Civil War. Famed UEC General Kayne Tetarinn resigned from the UEC Imperial Army and took the reins of the newly-founded Confederate Army, saying, quote, “....I can't fight my own people. Kally is my home and I have no greater duty than to my home."

Brief engagements occured on the on the border states and amongst pro and anti-secession crowds throughout the CSNC. First came the sinking of the NCSS Valor, a Confederate missile frigate that was sunk by the fearsome CSS Tyrant off the coast of Belser, killing 218 Confederate sailors. The first major land battle occured at the small border-town of Mexall. There, Brig. General Mark Travis' men faced a surprise attack against a numerically superior force. Travis' men held their ground and forced back the attacking Confederates, winning the day, but with substantial casualities.

More major battles soon followed. Among them: Montag's Ridge (UEC), Grant City (UEC), Manori (CSNC), 2nd Mexall (CSNC), Ridium (CSNC), among many others. A mix of victories and defeats on both sides kept the war at a steady, but bloody pace.

Then came a new gust of wind in the Rebels' sails: an upstart young Confederate Maj. General named Rison Warner. Rison had been a middle-of-his-class graduate of the Keystone Bay Military Institute, but soon showed that he was a tactical genius on the battlefield. His first major victory came at Blue Falls, where he defeated Lt. General Thomas Kyriakis in a heated contest.

Warner's victory caught the eyes of the Confederate high command and he was soon given a new assignment and a large force of reenforcements. Warner was to take his men (66,000+ strong) and march to the Imperial capital, Zachara. He was assigned to, quote, "crush the Imperial armies with the awesome power of his brave Confederate patriots." (CSNC General Sax Allloum).

Warner did just that. His campaign led him through the UEC state of Renna, in his intended march to Zachara, located in the heart of Kurono. He won sound victories at Keyd Junction and Gressville.

Scrambling to stop the approaching threat, Azben Koren dispatched General Sev Sicoro with orders to "stop that damn Warner at any cost." Sicoro met Warner at Villis Points and the two dueled to a draw, leaving some 8,300+ soldiers dead and an additional 5,300+ wounded.

At the Battle of Desare -- a mere forty-four miles from Zachara -- Rison Warner squared off against UEC Lt. General Madden Gaiers. Gaiers had high hopes of stopping Warner's strong advance, but he was utterly crushed. The Confederacy trounced Gaiers' force and inflicted enormous casualities, while losing less than a thousand men.

In Zachara, Colericans looked bleak and weary. Warner was fast approaching the Imperial capital and nothing had stood in his way on his march to the city. The Confederacy was vying for the chance to capture the UEC's capital and force an end to the war. Emperor Maderic Thra and Five-Star General Azben Koren were determined to prevent that.

At the "Accidental Battle" of Horacio, only twenty-six miles from Zachara, Warner met Sicoro again. In a brief engagement, both sides quickly struck at one another. A draw.

Furious at the past failures to subdue Warner’s advance to Zachara, UEC Five-Star General Azben Koren ordered Maj. General Roderick Adline to obliterate Warner’s forces in a climatic battle on Kurono soil. Adline chose the hills near the town of Rallen, only eleven miles from Zachara, for his offensive. Working with General Sicoro, Adline intercepted Warner’s forces as they made their way through Rallen.

Adline and Sicoro trapped Warner in a cross-fire and an eight-day battle ensued. Tens of thousands on both sides fell. On the seventh night of the battle, Warner was killed by his own men, either on accident or on purpose. With no commander and over ninety percent of their men killed, the remaining Confederates fled for their lives. Adline pursued and captured or killed all of the remaining members of Warner’s force that had once stood at over sixty-six thousand strong. This was labelled as the "bloodiest of all battles" and "a day no Colerican would ever forget."

Opposite reactions, of course, arose from the results. The United Empire breathed a collective sigh of relief as they had finally stopped Warner's advance, a dangerously close eleven miles from the capital. The Confederates' response, conversely, was that of utter dismay. They had come so close to achieving a potential victory in their war for freedom and they had the "carpet pulled right out from under us," recalled a CSNC general.

Other battles -- not near in the size or bloodiness of Rallen -- soon followed. Kys, Quellis, Teracon, Sizlacc, Mool and others: all United Empire victories. The Confederacy was routed. Men were fleeing from the Rebel lines continually. Most suspected that the war was only a few short weeks from ending. They were not far off in their predictions.

Medaak, the capital of the Confederacy, was the only major Rebel stronghold left in their entire nation. The capital of Kally, it was the prized house to the Confederate government and the Confederacy's top military brass. Emperor Thra ordered Admiral McCallum to "exert the full power of the Imperial Navy" on the Rebels. He did just that. A fleet of the UEC's largest and most powerful warships -- most of them being the dreaded Tyrant-class battleships -- rained hell down onto the Confederate capital. The incinderary rounds they used caught the city ablaze and destroyed the Confederate's once shining capital as if it were in a flash. It killed countless thousands and it also killed the Confederate's cause.

Two days later, on October 12th, 2005, remaining members of the Confederate goverment who had survived the Medaak bombardment signed an unconditional notice of immediate surrender. The Colerican Civil War was over.

Dubbed Re-Unification Day, October 12th was celebrated all throughout the United Empire with fireworks, dances, and parades. The beleagured citizens of the defeated ex-Confederacy saw all of their hopes and dreams go up in smoke, literally. The Confederate's dream of independance was dead. The United Empire of Colerica was victorious. Their victory, however, came at a high and bloody cost. Casuality counts were as follows:

Reconstruction

Sweeping actions were taken by the Emperor and his triumphant United Empire. Kally and Jaxuum, two of the hotbed states of secession, were divided in half, forming the new states of Kally Major, Kally Minor, Jaxuum Major, and Jaxuum Minor, respectively. The secesh states of Kardu and Jicarr were competely eliminated from the map. One unusual event occured, however, when Emperor Thra issued an Imperial pardon to Kayne Tetarinn. He was free from any crimes he may have committed. He was no longer recognized as a tratior by the UEC.

Ruraq Kylaer, on the other hand, was not nearly as fortunate. He was found four days after the surrender and arrested. In a surprising turn of events, he escaped from prison mysteriously before his trial for a list of crimes including treason and scores of terrorist attacks (during his years with the RAFC) could take place. No solid leads have been found or followed up on.

A Reconstruction period set in the UEC and the nation slowly began to return to living once again under one rule. People returned to their old lives before the war and most found peace to be a preferred state of living. Kally and Deviso, still hotbeds for the secessionist movement, slowly began to turn around and a majority of the secesh seemingly became a vocal minority. Many believe, however, that the secessionists were infact a silent majority, but knew when to silence their treason to save themselves. Such remains unknown at this point.

Ethnic Groups

The main island is dominated by the 85% native Colericans, who are decedents of the Colerisarians who founded Colerica. They are Caucasians. Resemble typical white Americans/Britons. 10% are Nevesians, an ‘off-shoot’ of Colericans. ~4% are Colerican-Colerisarians. ~1% Bigtopian.

The Colerican Colony of Rilos is dominated by the overwhelming 94% Colerisarians. ~2% Nevesians and roughly 4% Colerican-Colerisarians.

The Colerican Colony of Wangchops is dominated by the native Wangchopians, at 84% rate. Colerican-Colerisarians make up roughly 6%. ~10% Bigtopian.

The Colerican Colony of Michigan-Wisconsin is a large mix of Caucasians, blacks, Arabs, Hispanics, and Bigtopians. The area has seen as strong influx of Colerican-Colerisarians since it became a colony of the United Empire. [Located in Earth II]

Religion

Religion had been banned by the Colerican Constitution since 1855. However, Emperor Maderic Thra recently repealed that portion of the Constitution and established a new national religion. Known as Imperias, the religion is State-run and recognizes the Emperor as a god or god-like figure. The Emperor has made this non-compulsory; however, Imperias is the only religion that can be legally practiced in the UEC.

Major Cities

The capital city of Zachara is the center of all Imperial activity. It’s the host of the Imperial Palace and home to the Emperor and his Imperial Court. It has a population of 15 million people.

The largest city in all of the United Empire is Alatsar. Located in the state of Nurema, Alatsar is home to over 22 million people. Other important cities include Raxus (11 million), Keystone Point (13 million), and Medaak (14.5 milion).

Elevation extremes

The highest point in all of the United Empire is Imperial Mountain, located in the southwest of Colerica. It is 22,456 feet tall.

Conversely, the lowest point is commonly called the Keystone Minor Drop. It is 226 feet below sea level.

Uranium, oil, gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, and iron.

Events of Interest

Imperial Day (December 11th), Imperator Day (Emperor’s birthday, presently March 4th), Colerica Bowl (‘American’ football championship game held yearly, culmination of each season in the IFL, Imperial Football League).

Notable Laws

There are a few unique laws within the United Empire. As per the Colerican Constitution, no woman can ever hold the office of Emperor nor can any woman hold the office Lieutenant Emperor Pro Tempor. Other laws include a drinking age set at sixteen, a national conscription draft which mandates that all men and women must serve two years in the United Empire’s military, mandatory exercise, and all firearms are banned as they could become tools of rebellion.

Security

The oppressive, fascist government of the UEC is omni-present. It sees all, hears all, and knows all. There are spies literally in every city, town, and village. There is little that occurs in the UEC without the government knowing it. Everyone is bar-coded to keep track of their movements at all times. An intense security network with checkpoints at every city, (no one enters or exits without the gov't knowing of it), seems to stop terrorists and foreign spies dead in their tracks.

Justice/Legal System

Justice is an odd thing. There is trial by jury, but the punishments are far more severe. Executions happen daily, in fact, one of the most popular TV channels in the UEC is the Imperial Execution Network, which airs public executions 24/7 (Harrison Bergeron-esque). The most used execution methods are hanging, firing squad, and decapitation. Third-degree murderers are hung, drawn, and quartered. There are cameras in all public places as well as loud-speakers that continually blare pro-gov't, 'patriotic' messages, such as the national motto, "Believe. Obey. Fight."

Gambling

Gambling is Imperially-run. What hooks most people is Katharasis, a State-run gambling ring that entertains millions of citizens and sucks millions of dollars into the Empire's bank accounts.

Media

The media outlet, the Colerica Imperial News network, is completely State-run and continually broadcasts the UEC's propaganda, further brain-washing the citizens.

Biggest business

Niculescu Funds, LTD. A multi-national, global-reaching banking firm, Niculescu Funds is run by uber-wealthy businessman Mikhai Niculescu. He is the richest private citizen in the entire United Empire, at a private wealth currently estimated at over $400 billion Colerican credits.

OOC Notes

I'm an empire, pure and simple. Colerica's government is fascist and oppressive. And when I say fascist, don't think Nazis. More like the Roman Empire. The State owns everyone, more to less. The Emperor is the sole leader for life and his wish is law.
