The mine layer/hunter is the smallest and least armed of the three types of small vessels operated by the Naval Service of the Community Defence Forces. The nine mine boats, generally comparable to the British Royal Navy’s Waveney class, in the first batch after one hundred million population of Sober Thought is reached are named M-1 through M-9, the second batch M-10 through M-18, etc.
It is capable of clearing and/or laying mines, and as such it may operate alone in friendly harbours as a naval base defence vessel. However, it is often found in coastal areas and on the high seas in combination with other mine warfare craft, fast patrol boats and small craft tender. The tender provides both munitions and supplies for the mine vessel, as well as the command crew for the task detachment.
