The Confederation for Socialism is a political pressure group and think tank which is associated with the Social Democrats.

History

Begun in 1854 as an illegal political organisation the Confederation for Socialism adhered to Marxism as dictated in the Communist Manifesto. For almost eighty years, together with The Worker's Board of Representation, they spawned debates, political activism and strikes so to push foward the 'labour movement'. Indeed, together with the Worker's Board, the Confederation for Socialism allowed the civil war to go ahead and by supporting the Socialist Resistance they were a large reason why the Socialist's gained support and won.

After the creation of a democratic state in 1958 the Confederation for Socialism began work as a think-tank and pressure group. Nonetheless, it continues to rally support for the Social Democrats - the party of the Socialist Resistance.

Today

The Confederation has around eight million members and an anual income of around $150,000,000 that is used to fund the aspects of a think-tank, pressure-group work, full time lobbying and even direct funding to the Social-Democrats. The group has continually had around 40 Deputies and 10 Senators elected as Social-Democrats and, due to this and some reasons above, some consider the Confederation as an informal wing of the Social Democrats.
