The Coocoobad Red Menace is one of 12 teams of the Coocoostan Hockey League, based in the national capital of Coocoobad. The team won the CHL's National Cup on June 29,2007 with a 7-1 victory to sweep the Panjuhr Owls

History

Soviet

The team started out as CSKA(Sport Club Army) Coocoobad in 1957 and initially was the only team in the country. Over the course of 15 years, the school grew to span over 24 other clubs, all of which traced their roots to CSKA. The team performed well within the Coocoo SSR, but not well enough to challenge other republics' teams. In 1978, Mikhail Afanasenkov took over as coach and the team took another giant step forward. Soon the team was the undisputed power of the CSSR.

Post-Independence

In 1991, ownership of the team transferred from the Soviet Army to the People's Liberation Army of Coocoostan. The team became known as PLAC Coocoobad and had three teams in the national junior league as feeders. The team quickly racked up the first 6 league titles, before beginning in the shortened 1991 season. Additional titles came from 1999-2001, 2002,2003 and 2004. However, the team finished 3rd in the 2006 season, and was knocked out in round 1 of the playoffs. The Coocoostan Hockey Federation's domestic league was bought out by the fully professional Coocoostan Hockey League and the team moved over. Changes in PLAC caused the new Coocoostan Military to sell off all it's sports teams, including the hockey teams.

Post-Army

The team was snapped up by billionaire Konrad Schultz, who immediately put up the money to re-sign Alex Starukhin for the long term. He also contributed to renovating the old Army Sports Palace, which became the Schultz Credit Union Place. The team was also rebranded as the "Red Menace", with the logo featuring a red monster-like creature in front of a volcano and the logo on the jersey featuring the russian letter "Ya", which looks like a backwards english "R". Schultz has been criticized for his involvement in day to day operations, including the proposed benching of Starukhin for not having many points while playing his position well, the firing of Misha Afanasenkov for opposing it and trying to get Management to draft his nephew Lasse, a junior hockey player. The team finished the regular season in third place, before losing just one game through the three rounds of the playoffs, defeating the Panjuhr Elite, Ulgava Wild and Panjuhr Owls to take the title.
