Basics

Corbournne has a one-house Parliament, the senators to which are elected every four years. However, they can be ejected by a majority vote of Parliament and approval of the President, whom is also elected for four years. The President can be voted out of office by a majority of Parliament and the popular vote.

It has a socialist economy. The socialist system is mainly to discourage large corporations from effectively taking over, as it has done in some capitalist nations. There is pretty high social equality, and most people are high-middle class. Higher education is free, leading to about 75% of the young population to take advantage of it.

Coburn was originally a resort for English nobles in the thirteenth century A.D. During the Napoleonic wars, it was conquered by France, and its name francified. Even when it was declared independent after the Congress of Vienna, it voted to keep the French name. There was still rule by the nobility until 1848, when revolutionaries with socialist ideals took over. They remained a sovereign nation until 1943, when the Nazis installed a puppet government. After the end of World War II, Corbournne was allowed to keep German military equipment left there during the evacuation following the Allied liberation. There was quite a bit of controversy over it, but in the end, the Allies decided Corbournne needed to be able to defend itself.

Protestantism is the main religion, followed by Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxism. The official language has remained English throughout the years, but there is a large contingent of French, Russian, and German speakers. The nation is basically a melting pot of the four nationalites, along with their heritage and culture. The English majority is mostly descended from the original English nobles, the French from Napoleon's Imperial Guard, and the Germans from their own troops that were stationed in Corbournne. The Russians came once Stalin took power. They wished to avoid his dictatorial regime, but wanted to remain in a socialist nation.
