Crystal fusion: the act of fusing the crystal with one's body via cutting. once a liquid touches the crystal, it begins to liquify on it's own, and then seaps into the cut area. Normally, this process is done only by those hungry for the crystal's power (these people are usually killed off by the crystal before too much trouble arises), but the Twin's reasons for doing so (at first) was to establish the fact that they were now rulers over their nation.
The act of crystal fusion, in ancient scrolls found in the area, indicates that this was precisely what the ancients did with the crystal. However, when the Twins took it a step too far, they found that the crystal is indeed an entity to be respected. Now 'children of the crystal', as the scrolls call them, they would be considered freaks of nature anywhere else, but here, they are still the rulers. Having paid for their insolance with a lifetime commitment to the crystal, they have been given powers beyond normal, but at a price too great to be understood by anyone else.
