The Cthonian Wasteland covers the southern half of the largely desolate island of Ayensh in the Wysteria[1] region.

A rapidly increasing population has led to the majority of the wasteland to become home to sprawling multi-storeyed metropoli; it is rumoured that these cities extend far deeper into Ayensh than their cyclopean towers and ziggurats reach skyward.

The largest cities are found on the coast; these pearls in the Wasteland's crown act as gateways to the many submarine colonies that have spawned within Ayensh coastal waters over the last few years.

The people of the wasteland are devoted consumers from many varied races. At one time human colonists were the dominant species, however an aquatic offshoot of the human race holds the highest rank in population figures. second we find the amorphic Shoggoth; a sub-race once used as slave labour by the aquatic meta-humans. The Cthonians themselves are rarely seen but it is rumoured their population is larger yet than the Shoggoth. Humans follow as the final dominant group in this nation.

There are a high level of transients in the Wasteland due to its large focus on tourism. The majority of these transients are Fremen from the North; although many races and cultures can be found in the Wasteland's cities.

Religion is an important part of the Wasteland's heritage and all forms of religious worship are encouraged. There is also a great emphasis placed on cultural diversity, especially when it comes to the arts. The central religion and government are led by a single figurehead, the Om-mani-padme-Pope and his/her council of advisers. The current Pope is Armaitus Syn, it is believed that Armaitus is one of the first humans to hold the position and is certainly the only human to have ever sat on the council of advisers. Notable advisers include the High Concubine, Oquintia Thanateros and the Military Adviser Adamine Lan; both are believed to be directly descended from the Elder Gods - as is usual for members of the council of advisers.

Science is also respected to the same level as religion; in fact it is treated by the nation's scientists with the same fervour. Advancements in space travel, genetics and aquaculture are the key foci of these science groups.

The Wasteland's military is relatively strong with its Navy (both nautical and astronomical) being one of the best trained in the region.
