The Cupodìnolian Reaction is the informal name for the coup which ended Director Lawrence Madders' brief Terror.

The Reaction started when, paralyzed by the lack of a strong, central figure such as Charles Bradsworth to rally around, the National Assembly started falling apart. Premier Benjamin Rinehart, worried that Madders' radicals might assume complete power and expand the Terror, proposed to suspend the elections of 18 Cupodìnolo in the Year VII (18 May 1959) for two years. Madders and the radicals were outraged and Director of Justice Sam Longdale attempted to arrest Rinehart.

It was then that Major General Nicodemo Ranalte, contacted by Madders to carry out the proposed arrest, arrived at Jameston Place with his men. Ranalte refused to arrest Rinehart and instead placed Madders, Longdale, and the more powerful radicals under arrest. Madders died on the gallows of Gull Flag Square 5 Cupodìnolo VII, the last victim of the Terror he himself started.

The other main event of the Reaction was the writing of a new Constitution, Iansisle's second in seven years. Ranalte used the leverage gained by saving Rinehart to have the National Assembly essentially write itself out of power, creating an extremely strong new presidential office to guide the Republic -- an office to which Ranalte himself was promptly elected by an overwhelming majority. The abandonment of the Bradsworthian Constitution is often seen as the end of the Gull Flag Revolution.
