The Constitutional Monarchy of Curthailia is a huge, devout nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate population of 498 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Education and Commerce are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 74%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Cheese Exports, and Beef-Based Agriculture industries.
Fur coats have become the latest fashion trend, scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, government-run brothels can be found on every street corner, and drunk drivers are sentenced to death. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Curthailia's national animal is the Weevil, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Drachma.
Capital City
Situated on the Brine river, Cur forms the governmental hub of Curthailia. Cur houses the main residence of HRH Kealrog von Beer (Benedict palace), the house of parliament, the high court, the constitutional court and the military headquarters.
Since the abolishment of the law prohibiting people from rural areas living within the city limits in 1921, the population of Cur rose to a staggering 12.8 million inhabitants with an estimated 42.6 million people living in suburbs around the capital city. This created an enormous problem for commuters and public services. To combat the congestion, the parliament voted to radically expand the public transport system. An initial amount of D1.7 trillion was spent to create the infrastructure for public transport development. Since the completion of the project 5 years ago, parliament approved an annual expenditure of D500 billion for public transport upkeep and expansion.
