Damia Tathouris is the Champion, a costumed warrior who defends the innocent against crime and other threats. It is open to debate whether she can be classified as a posthuman or merely a human making use of advanced, alien technology. She is a Level Four Paranormal according to the Danaan Paranormal Classification System.

Damia participated in a competition designed to select a new champion for her homeland of Hipolis and a representative to the outside world. This position was tied to the official position of Ambassador to the United Nations. When Damia one, she was gifted with artifacts alleged to have been blessed by saints and heroes. Damia soon found that these artifacts gave her the ability to command the truth, preternatural strength, preternatural speed, flight, and semi-impermeable skin. These artifacts were later revealed to have been artifacts of Coari technology, given to the people of Earth to be used to do good and fight evil. In keeping with her duty as a champion of her nation and a representative of its moral values to the world, Damia donned a colorful uniform and now uses the powers bestowed upon her to fight evil.

As the Champion, Damia has become something of a feminist icon. She actively encourages young women to be more independent, assert themselves, and expand their horizons. She also teaches women self-defense techniques and contributes heavily to a number of charities for abused women.

Early days

Princess Damia began her career as the champion of Hipolis without any special powers which she knew of. She focused on representing her nation to the United Nations, delivering lectures on Hipolitan values, and teaching young women self-defense. She became very popular in Bigtopia merely as a public figure.

It was on her way back from a public event that Damia first discovered the powers she was given by the Coari devices she possessedin attempting to help rescue someone from a mugging. It did not take Damia long after discovering her gifts before deciding that she must use them in her mission.

Damia did not mean for the Champion to become her moniker. However, people began to refer to her simply as the Champion both because of her official Hipolitan title and because she was functioning as a champion for ordinary people in need of protection. To capitalize on the publicity and thus gain a larger audience, she soon donned a colorful costume. The original costume was in the colors of the Bigtopian flag but was soon replaced by one in the colors of the Hipolitan flag. Both costumes are notoriously scanty, although not more than those worn by a lifeguard, figureskater, or acrobat.

Originally, Damia concentrated her efforts at stopping ordinary violent criminals. Although this was time consuming, it was normally not very challenging given her great powers. However, it was in this way that she first saved dozens of lives and endeared herself to the public.

Powers and abilities

Super powers and skills

Damia was born an ordinary human with no special powers. However, ever since she began to employ Coari technology, she has also begun to develop incredible speed, stamina, and strength, although not to levels comparable to those she is given by her Coari technology.

As a Hipolitan princess, Damia is trained extensively as a warrior, with firearms, melee weapons, and with her bare hands. She also has extensive training in strategy and tactics and has all the leadership skills of her royal upbringing.

Weapons

Damia's powers are largely derived from a number of Coari devices. These devices were given to the people of Hipolis in ages past so that they might be wielded in the cause of justice by the champions of that people. Little is known about the Coari themselves, except that they were destroyed in a dimensional war which makes them inaccessible, even to most forms of time travel.

Although Damia is rumored to possess any number of Coari artifacts, the most famous and most important are the Belt of Might and the Ring of Truth. It is the Belt of Might which gives her preternatural strength, speed, and endurance, semi-impermeable skin, and the ability to fly. The Ring of Truth gives her the ability to force an opponent to speak the truth.

Damia recently lost the Ring of Truth to the Daleks, a non-human race from the future who sought to use the device to unlock the secrets of more advanced time travel technology for the purpose of gaining control of all time. Although Damia rescued Cecinia, the captive from whom the the Daleks sought this information, the Daleks were able to use the Ring to learn what they wanted before the escape.

It is currently completely unknown exactly how Coari technology works. It has never been examined by a people sufficiently advanced to be able to discern its inner workings.
