A Danaan Principality is any one of the twenty-five principalities (of which Shieldcrest is referred to as a Grand Duchy and not properly a Principality) which form the Danaan High Kingdom of the Resurgent Dream. Each principality is a distinct constitutional monarchy with its own prince, princess, grand duke, or grand duchess, and its own separate representative legislature.

Danaan law allocates power between the two levels of government. Generally speaking, the government of the principality governs roads and other matters of internal infrastructure, education, and law enforcement, although the central government does have some say in all these affairs. Each Danaan principality also has the right to select for itself the established church within its territory, without prejudice to the freedom of worship of other faiths. Most principalities also have a local language which they traditionally use alongside English.
