Capital Punishment in Asgarnieu has always been a hot-button issue. It was first instituted in 1949 to combat rising crime rates and deter criminals from commiting capital offenses.

Capital Crimes

  • Rape
  • Murder (class I & II)
  • Extreme Grand Theft
  • Male-to-Male Sodomy
  • Treason
  • Genocide
  • Beastiality
  • Cannabalism (class I & II)

Methods of Execution

  • Electrocution
  • Gas Chamber (hydrogen cyanide is the usual gas used)
  • Hanging (only used for class I crimes, and must be voted upon)
  • Firing Squad
  • Detonation (subject is detonated with high explosives)
  • Decapitation (subject has head removed with the Sword of Law)
  • Quartering (used on subjects who commit beastiality, horses used)
  • Air Drop (used only on the worst of criminals)

Controversy

Naturally, liberals will detest the death penalty, but they are never able to stop it from happening. Many civil rights groups have pushed for more 'humane' forms of execution, such as lethal injection. The reasoning behind the gruesome deaths that subjects must face is simple. It is far better to deter criminals than rehabilitate them. It is also much less expensive.

Since the passing of the Homosexuality Law, all homosexuals must register with the Homosexual Registry. When they do so, they are given one opportunity to be given psycological treatment to attempt to treat the "disease". Most homosexual males are released if their treatment is not successful, but they are closely watched. Should the subject commit sodomy, they are to be executed. Male-to-male sodomy is a crime and is looked down upon, executions are usually painless. By Citizen's Popular Vote, these laws were enacted, and will be enforced until the laws are repealed.
