The Commonwealth of Delamonico is a small, socially progressive nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its compassionate, hard-working population of six thousand enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.
The minute, liberal, pro-business government, or what there is of one, juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling, Arms Manufacturing, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales industries.
Voting is voluntary, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, same-sex marriages are increasingly common, and the government is avowedly atheist. Crime is a major problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Delamonico's national animal is the earthworm jim and its currency is the island coin.
The End of the Reunification wars
The Freedom Fighters Union (A group of Marxist, Communist, Monarchs and Libertarians with likeminded ideas on freedom came together after the crushing of Silant {an old city} by the nazi front.) was the power group that after 75 years were able to reunified the island. [at this time the island had no name, it had been long forgotten] They had 3 key strengths that allowed them to take the island 1. Support of the people 2. they had the only know arms factory left on the island and 3. they were the only power on the island that was truly united. All other powers suffered from internal dissention and ambitions of its lower members. Even with all this, however, it still took 10 years for them to finally take the last control point of the island (The Capital).
Post-Wars
Libertarians of the union took control and asked all non-likeminded members to form parties for the democratic election. After the non-Libertarians left the group the FFU was renamed the Libertarian party. The monarchs were too small to form a party and now just have slight power in the politics of Delamonico. The Communists are the only other party right now, but more are excepting to form when the island is rebuilt. Most of the island (Civiliaztion wise) is gone, all the cities are mostly levelled and the only one still working is the Capital (still unknown what the final name of it is going to be).
The Great Aid
Shortly taking the Capital Temporary Commander of the nation Sir Cid Send a message to the world proclaiming that the island of Delamonico (it is not 100% known if that is the old name of the island before Doomsday [start of the reunification wars] most documents were lost in the war.) was back after many years of darkness. Much to the shock of him and the gov’t huge amounts of aid came into the nation. Rebuilding plans that were first thought going to take years now looks as if it would only be months. This event is conspired by many to be the end of the dark age and start of the Renaissance of Delamonico.
