Sides of the War

Loyalist Party

While not an original political party, the Loyalists were formed from those fighting against the Nationalist Party. They chose the term 'Loyalists' because of their loyalty to original Deltannian principles. Suffering most of the setbacks early on, the primary military component that joined was the navy.

Nationalist Party

The true start of the Nationalist Party is unknown. Most leaders were never identified, and the ideological values are somewhat vague. The Party began to show up in the Council after being elected as a new platform in the southern areas. The Party itself, however, has been likened to an extreme of Deltannian values, and the true political feeling, but has also had terrorist-like qualities. It took a larger power hold during the Two Ships Incident, arresting key members of the government and navy for treason. This has been seen as a prelude to the Deltannian Civil War, with many of the same elements coming into play. After the end of the Incident, the Nationalist Party went back into hiding, returning to its cell-organized state before.

The beginnings of the Nationalist uprising began in the small city of Corda. A long time hotbed of revolt, Corda was perfect for their cause. Several leaders, along with hundreds of men, marched up to city hall with collected weapons of all forms and slaughtered the police force, taking the mayor as a hostage. From there, the leader sent out a message for all Nationalist cells to emerge from hiding. Most of the army had joined the Nationalist fight.

Battles

Battle of New Delta

New Delta, situated at the end of a long bay in the central north, was the first target of the Nationalist campaign. The location of prime importance was Fleet Admiral Connor Grey's headquarters and branch of the Admiralty, as well as the secure harbor that acted as a port and shipyard. Within hours of the emergence message, Nationalists worked quickly to secure the harbor before any counter-response could be given.

Admiral Grey led the remaining Loyalist forces to the docks, and subsequently out of New Delta through the sewer systems in order to regroup with his personal battalion.

Battle of Delta

Nationalist forces at the early onset of the war quickly took Delta. Fighting between both parties primarily commenced after much of the city had already been taken.

Battle of the Borean Straits

After Nationalist forces had taken much of the mainland, the Loyalist navy became stranded out to sea. Several attempts were made to push their way back onto the mainland for supply reasons. The effort required much of Deltannia’s navy to be pulled in from the rest of Europa.

The quickest way to bring the ships back was through the Borean Straits, controlled by the Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium. An escort fleet was sent southward in order to protect the incoming ships from fleets from both Tagmatium and Adaptus. The first brief skirmish was halted due to weather conditions, allowing the Deltannian ships to make their escape northward, back to the mainland.

Battle of Tolun Point

Tolun Point, being of critical military value to both sides, was the only Loyalist army stronghold left after the start of the war. The attack on the Point’s heavy garrison defense proved effective at first, with Nationalists claiming most of the outer perimeter swiftly, moving in equally fast.

Battle of Levana

After moving northwestward, Fleet Admiral Grey, along with his personal battallion and remaining personnel from New Delta, began moving to the ancient city of Levana by railroad. Along with militia support, the Loyalists were able to counter much of the attack on the northern sectors of the city. Along the waterfront, Loyalist vessels began to finally make their way in to the bay to begin their attack on the small Nationalist force stationed there.

Concluding the War

Nimarci Conference

In order to conclude the Civil War, Akiiryu offered its capital city of Nimarci to hold peace talks. Both parties of Deltannia, as well as all foreign participants in the war were present, but the Conference was largely inconclusive due to the continuing fighting at the Battle of Corda.

Duality of the war

Because of its Civil War nature, both the Nationalists and the Loyalists sent messages claiming that they were the true government of Deltannia, adding to the initial confusion. Unlike many civil wars for splitting the country apart, the Deltannian Civil War was a struggle for the rights of leadership.

Foreign Response

Several outside nations participated in the war, and therefore directly affected its outcome.
