The Democratic Union (or D.U./DU) is a region formed out of Pink Floyd. They have a strong belief in all of the political philosophies. It is currently building itself up and has a strong Constitution.

History
The region was founded by Philanchez, a member of Pink Floyd. He sent a message to Palixia's Pink Floyd puppet, The Palixian States, Tetris L-Shaped Block and Spooty due to the fact that they are the founding member of Floydism, or the Holy Church of Floyd and are good allies of Philanchez. Soon afterward more nations started coming in, the first was Yugoamerica, an previously unknown nation to the Floydian States, many followed suit. Soon afterwards, the first presidential elections started and was between Philanchez, the founder and Yugoamerica, the first nation in the region after it was founded. Philanchez won by a small margin, he made Tetris L-Shaped Block the Prime Minister. He soon picked his cabinet. Later on the Palixian States formed a news paper, he also wrote a constitution which was approved unanimously. After the region was set up, it experienced a large influx of nations who abandoned their home region, lead by The Genius Masterminds and Ninjasmooshr. The influx was later followed by a crunch of inactivity caused by many nations of TGM's region leaving. However, another large influx was started, but this one centred around real life recruitment, leading to a large amount of users with personal connections to other users.
Schism
The events of the Schism are not well documented, all that is known of it is that despite being an overall bad thing it saved the DU, it began around August 8th 2006 with the proposal of an economic points system to curb the over militarization of the RP section, although the system worked it caused a major rift in the members of the DU, OOC tensions increased until an argument broke out between TGE and Abascalania resulting in the three month suspension of both members and the stripping of Mod and Admin ranks though president Tetris L-Shaped Block moved it to three days. During this time TGE decided to leave and created the Republic Union, and obvious play on Democratic Union, meanwhile in the DU the Admins worked harder to keep the RP section alive, this included scrapping the Economic points system and creating a set rule for Colonialism. In addition, Palixia and Tetris created to spy cells in the RU. They were identified as spies early on, but incorrectly as spies of Palixia and Philanchez. In the RU things turned ugly as the seemingly unorganized rules and legislative assembly (of which the DU spies controlled 50% of the seats) caused much tensions and many RU members returned to the DU. The DU was in the middle of an RP Golden age, the RP section had been restarted as MT2.0 which, lacking in an Antagonist, had a wave of far darker nations; even the previously lighthearted undefended Circus nation of Spooty had taken on a darker role. Eventually the RU collapsed as TGE returned to the DU.
Reformation
Following the dark events of the Schism, the Democratic Union forums were a mess of overlapping mods, useless positions, and wasted space. The next president, Tetris L-Shaped Block, instituted the Reformation. After effectively shutting down the forums for a day, TLSB recreated mod positions, admin poditions, and deleted and archive all Roleplay related topics. Afterwards, the Modern Tech RP was reformed as the MT2.0.
Post Schism/Reformation
As the Schism and Reformation came to a close, the DU enjoyed a long period of prosperity. New nations joined, including Huseini Arabia (the former Lylybium) and Zeonland. New parties were formed, the short lived United Democratic Poll and the NLP. This was effecivelly the DU's second golden age.
Government
Executive
The Executive branch of the DU Government consists solely of the President, who is Head of State. Due to the Second Constitution, the president holds a rather small level of power. The president gains access to the Admin CP on the forums and can appoint the UN Delegate. The president may also request emergency powers of the legislature, which allow said president to do almost anything within reason if legislature approves the request.
Legislative
The Legislative branch of the DU Government consists of the Prime Minister, the Cabinate, and the Legislature. The PM is the Head of Government and is to represent the entire Legislature. The PM, like the president, gains Admin Powers on the Forums. The Prime Minister can be elected with the backing of one party or a coalition of parties. The Prime Minister is to appoint a cabinate to help him preform regional duties. The legislative assembly is the other part of the Legislative Branch. The legislative assembly votes on all issues reguarding the DU government and policies, but NOT roleplaying issues.
Judiciary
Due to the Second Constitution, there was Judiciary branch of government for a long time. In the old DU government, the Judiciary branch was headed by the Minister of Justice, who was appointed by the President. The Minister of Justice then appointed judges. The judiciary by law was supposed to settle constitutional issues but it only settled cases on the DU forums regarding Godmoding. When the Second Constitution was passed, the Judiciary branch was disassembled, and those who were judges were demoted to regular users. In January 2007, however, a new Judiciary proposal was passed and the current one was created. In this judiciary ONLY issues reguarding to the forums and the constitution are discussed. The Judiciary was christened with its first case Zeonland v. Democratic Union in which it was ruled that anyone with 150 or more posts may have a user title.
Moderative/Administrative
The Mod team acts as the fourth branch of government, enforcing DU Roleplaying Law in the Modern Tech and other sections of the DU forums. Offenses such as Godmoding are under the jurisdiction of the mods and only the mods. Mods are appointed by the President and the Prime Minister according to the laws of the constitution.
Governmental Problems and Changes
Early into the First Constitutions passing, problems arose. Many parts of it fell out of practice and many parts went unenforced. The most notable was the UN Delegates position. According to the Constitution, the Delegate was to be elected, but he remained an appointed official. After six months, the same delegate remained without ever facing an election. After numerous attempts to change the constitution, it was until Socialist Freemen's Presidency that the only real change took place. Under his presidency it was established that the Prime Minister runs alongside the President on the same ticket, as opposed to a PM being appointed by the president every 3 elections.
Creation of the Block
In the wake of Tetris L-Shaped Block's departure from the Democratic Union, several jobs such as recording the history of the D.U., running the elections etc. were left vacant. In his last hours of Power, Golencia put all previous powers under the jurisdiction of the Internal Affairs Minister. Following the election of Palixia, all of the aforementioned jobs were put under the jurisdiction of a new Ministry labeled The Block. Golencia was the first appointee to this position.
Reformation
On August 1st Tetris L-Shaped Block became president of the Democratic Union. Alongside this victory was the passing of the "Reformist Plebecite". This plebecite was conducted in order to pass the Second Constitution. Immediately afterwards, Tetris L-Shaped Block requested emergency powers as laid out in the Second Constitution. Due to the legislature not being established, instead of a vote, the Prime Minister, Palixia, had to second it. Once the powers were aquired, many unused sections of the DU forums were archived, including the DU News and Judiciary section. The Legislative section was put up shortly and emergency legislative elections were held for the newly created Legislative Branch.

Descriptions
Prime Minister- Will head the cabinet and assure that the cabinet is running smoothly. You could also say that this person is the Vice President in a sense. The successor to the President of they leave office or become inactive for some reason or another.
Foreign Affairs- (This Position is now merged with UN Delegate) Will handle alliances and relations with other regions. Will TG everyone once a month to assure that they know what is happening in the region. Will post in the Regional Commands of the various feeder regions to try to attract members. Also will maintain a thread in Gameplay about the region. Will gather intelligence from unfriendly regions or just assist the Foreign Affairs minister in gatherin what is going on in NS Regions.
Minister of Justice- Will settle disputes between member nations and will appoint judges to the court. This position was eliminated after the Teteroid Reforms

Political Parties
The Democratic Union is a multiparty democracy, and has several large parties. The first, Social Democratic Initiative was started by Philanchez after founding and has had several sucsessful presidential campaigns. The Corperate Republic Alliance, led by The Glorious Empire, is the regions main right-wing party and has been a minority party thoughout its founding, though has one sucsessful presidential campaign under its belt. That Other Madly Random Lunatic Party lead by Spooty has been the regions tolken third party since the founding, and has fielded a nomination in almost every election, coming in third every time. The Sporatic Dictatorial Party is an oddball party lead by Thespesia and came in second in a presidential race against Socialist Freemen. The New Labour Party is a relatively new party that fielded two sucsessful presidential campaigns for the chairman Socialist Freemen. The relatively new Coalition for Individual Progress, led by The Russian States was originally an offshoot party of the SDI. They have grown to be one of the biggest contenders in DU politics, and have introduced a new system for voting, which is very popular among it's own members and new recruits. Called the Inter-Party voting system, CIP party members vote on bills within the party to determine how the party will vote in the Legislature, thus giving the Principle Chair much less power and ensuring everyone has their views heard.
In addition to Political Parties, parties may band together to form a coalition. The only coalition in DU History was the Popular Front. Founded durring The Glorious Empire's presidency, the aim of it was to keep the right wing out of power. The three parties involved were the Social Democrat Iniciative, the New Labour Party, and That Other Madly Random Lunatic Party. They fielded Socialist Freemen on their behalf and won twice, and then went on to field Philanchez, winning again. After Philanchez won the presidency unopposed, the Popular Front dissolved, seeing as the right wing Cooperate Republican Alliance was nolonger a threat.
Presidential History
- Philanchez - The Founder of the region and probaly the most important nation, developed the government, won the election vs. Yugoamerica 5 votes to 3 votes. A constitution, bill of rights, and mission statement were all approved during his first term, on Janrurary 29th, 2006 he was elected to a second term. He beat the Palixian Coalition by 1 vote. In the next election he decided to take a one month break from politics.
- Palixia - Was considered a stable president by many, under him an anti-imperialism position went into effect. On March 18, he was accused of fraud because he did not say he had any puppets in the region. He resigned later that day.
- Tetris L-Shaped Block - As Prime Minister, he took over when Palixia resigned.
- The Glorious Empire - The region saw an increase in size unseen since Philanchez' government. He also created much stricter RPing policy and invested deeply in the RP section of the region.
- Socialist Freemen - Won the elections on behalf of a coalition of parties twice. Socialsit Freemen reorganized the cabinate to streamline it and get rid of unnessesary positions.
- Philanchez - Ran unopposed
- Tetris L-Shaped Block - Created a new Constitution, and many reforms introducing a legislative branch, and eliminating the Judicial one
- Palixia - Temporary President of the Democratic Union, took over until August 16th, after Tetris ceded power.
- Tetris L-Shaped Block - took back power on August 20 and completed his term.
- Golencia - Presided over a relatively mild time in DU history. Main concerns were recruiting new members and a discussion of whether or not to allow the invasion of NPC map plots.
- Thespesia - Like Golencia, Thespesia's Presidency was a mild one. Only very minor controversies arose out of Thespesia's handling of the MT2.0 section. While he came across as an ineffective President, in reality he was neither good nor bad.
- Philanchez - In a suprise move, Philanchez announced his candidacy, and was immediatly offered full support from the SDI and CIP. His Presidencey ushered in a new recruited campaign which was, in reality, begun under Thespesia's term.
- Abascalania - Scandal erupted immediatly follwing elections when Golencia, the Prime Minister, was nearly impeached and replaced with Huseini Arabia. After much coaxing, the threats were rescined. Later, the same thing happened to Abascalania, partly because while TRS had won the most votes in the general elections, he won by 1 vote in the Runoffs. Abascalania's Presidency was, from the start, an eventful one and one rocked with mulitple scandals. However, he was the first president to give an inauguration speech and he dedicated his term to keeping the DU together as CIP and GD tensions flaired.
Delegate History
- Philanchez - Was made delegate because he founded the region, served a short time but did found the region.
- Yugoamerica - Nothing important happened under him although he left the region with no forewarning on January 15, 2006.
- The Russian States - He increased the peoples say in the delegates vote and consults the populace on their view of the proposals.
- Golencia - Decreased People's Say on UN Resoutions, but United Nations was previously inactive in the DU. The First President/Delegate since the founding.
- The Russian States - In power again as UN Delegate. Has re-created the United Nations Forum on the Board and posts current UN Resolutions up for people to vote on.
Roleplaying in the DU
The DU's strongest feature is it's role playing. Following several RP problems, the roleplaying section was split into three. The Modern Tech is the regions principle RP zone, where most everyone plays, the Fantasy Tech is a smaller secondary group for those willing to use magic and fantasy races, and the Future Tech is a small third section for those who wish to have intergalactic warfare. The Wiki articles on roleplaying are all centred around the Modern Tech history. Roleplaying has evolved in the DU from a small group of nations to a whole nother world, complete with it's own religions of Solism and Floydism, Holy Wars, and two largescale wars (refered to as the First DU War and Second DU War respectively).
