High Field Marshall Derrick Braun is a character used by the Shakal Empire on Nation States. He was born in Shakal city on October 22nd 1990. Derrick is currently the Head of the Imperial Godess Guards and has held the rank of High Feild Marshall since September 23rd 2006. Often considered fast thinking and a brilliant strategist.

Early Life
Derrick is considered young by all. He was born in Shakal General Hospital on October 22nd 1990. At the age of five he was chosen for genetic engineering. His parents were thrilled and for 6 months he was in a Shakal Genetic facility deep in the Zagros mountains. During his time there he was both mentally and physically conditioned.
At 6 he returned home and went through school normally.
Teenage Years
Until Derrick turned 13 he was a normal child. In his 9th grade of schooling he met his future wife, and the future Empress, Kristina Schraepl II. They became close friends in the summer between his 9th and 10th years of school. He saved her from a charging Klaka. Although many credit Derrick with the actual releasing of the Klaka in the first place and how he saved her as a show of his hidden love.
In 10th Grade he was sent to military camp for the usual three week periods. By the end of the year he was a top student of the Shakal Military Academy. He finished his year as top the of the class with a special recomendation from the professor to become an officer.
At 15 Derrick went into his 11th year of schooling. Once per month he went for a week into Military training. By the end of the year he reached the rank of Tank Commander much to the annoyance of several older commanders. The Emperor himself gave him the command to Derrick with his famous make up of Fall Schwärz the plan for war with both Arbiters and Mt Baker. The next year he was called to service for the expiditionary force sent to the rebels in Zaire.
Zaire Conflict
On July 11th 2006 Derrick arrived in the war torn setor of Zaire in command of a Leopard 2A6. The general Bestel sent him directly to the front where he first experienced war. On July 15th he reported his first knockout of an enemy tank. In just two weeks Bestel was sacked for his reckless regard for Derricks life. Instead the Rebel general Gremaib took control of the 500 man Shakal expiditionary force. He had served beside Derrick and the other Shakal troops and respected them.
On July 27th he sent Derrick to take the fortified position atop Mobutai hill with almost the entire rebel army. Derricks tank scoreda confirmed 12 knockouts that day alone. On August 1st the Official Zaire army began a counter offensive and fought back the rebels forcing them into three pockets each containing 10 000 men. Derrick was trapped with the Shakal expiditionary force. The rebels fought well but were crushed in the far north pocket in under 2 days. The south fell in four. On August 10th the one containing the best troops and the Shakal forces still held due to superior armored support. Derrick was reported missing over a dozen occasions along with his tank and 4 others that followed him. It was later discovered that he had been over 3 km outside the pocket wreaking havoc on enemy supply lines. On August 15th the government troops began to push the pocket with three armies.
The pocket fell on August 19th 2006 to the official troops. The Shakal had sustained 298 casualties, 112 of which were left behind dead. During the final government push on August 17th Derrick managed to convince Gremaib to allow a final attempt of a breakout. Derrick and the entire armored rebel force of 50 tanks and led a charge into the government lines.
Eight hours later only 8 tanks remained. Derrick insisted on continuing the attack since it had almost broken the government line. The government officials had fallen back 500m and had left a 50m gap in there lines. He went against orderes and led another attack that broke through occicial lines but couldnt follow up because all the rebels were surrendering in droves. The Shakal forces fought on and managed to escpae with there wounded. In the porcess Derrick won the Bronze Cross medal for his fighting. The youngest person ever in the Shakal Empire to recieve the award. On September 1st 2006 the Emperor sent over 100 aircraft to rescue the Shakal forces. Derrick was among the last to leave.
Between Zaire And Mt Baker
He went back to school as a little known hero. Kristina and his old friends often remarked that he seemed strangly similar to before he left for the war. His cheery but disciplined attitude changed very little over the summer months. He continued his school and like the rest of the country was shocked when in January Momo Monkey and Mt Baker signed the Anti-Shakal Alliance. More surprise came on January 15th 2007 when the Protectorate of Arbiters also signed into the alliance.
On February 3rd the Anti-Shakal Alliance declared war and launched attacks on Shakal industrial centers killing over 5000 civilians. It was also the day the Emperor's health began to wane. On February 12th he went to the Imperial Palace with Kristina Schraepl II under direct command from the Emperor. He, along with the rest of the Empire and even its enemies, was shocked to learn that his friend Kristina Schraepl II was the fututre ruler of the Shakal Empire. She would be the first female ruler of the Empire ever. As a safety precaution her parents, like theres before them, sent the heir into public life under adopted parents. Only a week later he was sent to the front.
Anti-Shakal Conflict
Derrick reached the frontlines of the war on February 25th. Immediatly he led his tank deep into Momo territory raiding enemy supply routes. In one raid he was reported to have saw an approaching Momo armored column and used bluff to destroy it. He hid his tank in the forest and left it stationary. The crew except for himself went on the opposite side and opened fire with the Javlin missle system. They ran before the Momo tanks could react. Half the tanks followed them but were led to a dead end. The other half remained oblivious to his tank until he formed up with them and opened fire of there rear.
On March 3rd he reported back to Mannstein. The main Shakal assult threw aside the Momo defences by mid march and forced there unconditional surrender on March 28th. From there he headed to the front of war with the Empire of Mt Baker.
For three days the Shakal troops on the border sat idle. On March 7th 2007 they began to move and utilized the better trained men at there disposal. The Mt Baker armies held a supeior number of armor, over 90 000 tanks alone. These were however, older T-72 and T-80 tanks. The Shakal armor attacked fast before the superiority of Mt Baker numbers could be brought to bear.
Mt Baker Campaign
Derrick was on the front still a lowly single tank commander when the Mt Baker offensive began on March 12th. Over 1 million troops charged the Shakal border. Mannstein had a well co-ordinated defence that stalled the entire invasion force in its tracks by March 15th.
The Counter offensive was led by famed General Bresslov. He led the entire Shakal Balkan army north through Mt Bake lines. Some 1000 armor and 200 000 men participated in what is now known as the Great Drive. Half way through Bresslov was killed by an airplane from overhead. Derrick took control immediatly and ordered the assult continued. The force advanced over 200km and took over half a million prisioners by March 24th. Derrick won the Silver Cross for this and was promoted to Lt General.
Afterwards he led his Tank Brigade of 50 behind enemy lines and took the crucial supply port of Venice from Mt Baker. This went unoticed to there forces for quite some time. On April 3rd the Shakal troops totally defeated the Mt Baker armies. Over 12 000 of there armor littered the countryside around northern Italy. By April 11th 2007 the Shakal were devasting the Mt Baker countryside.
From Arbiters To Victory
On April 20th Derrick was diverted north to face the threat posed by the Protectorate of Arbiters. They had a force of over 2 million men slowly moving forward covered with heavy aerial superiority. Derrick was given command of three Panzcrier Divisions (Armored Divisions) and headed straight for the weakpoint at Graz in the Arbiters defences. The three infantry divisions guarding the city crumbled under his attack and he took 13 000 prisoners.
For three days the Armored Legion held back the Arbiter counterattacks. On April 26th he retreated back 25km and ambushed four more divisions that had followed him. They were routed and lost 80% of there number, some 64 000 men. Derrick pressed after them with his divisions and managed to reach Vienna. The city was left largly unguarded with only a few National Guard regiments stationed there. The Shakal forces under Derrick trampled them to dust and took the city. Derrick was ordered back by the Emperor with the Silver Cross and a promotion to General.
On May 1st he reached back to Shakal occupied Northern Italy and was given command of the 3rd Panscriergruppe. This corps consisted of the 15th Panscrier Division, 21st Infantry Division, 8th Panscrier Division, and the 88th Infantry Division. He immediatly set out to slow the Arbiter advance that had reached Sarajevo already. On May 5th 2007 he attacked up through Graz again facing heavy resistance. On May 9th he recieved help from Mannstein who sent the 33rd Infantry Division to assist him. They broke the Arbiters defence and headed for Vienna again. Derrick was dismayed to hear that Sarajevo fell the day before. The Shakal armies were gathering in Macedonia for the counterattack.
Derrick decided to ontinue his fruitless attacks. On May 11th it was reported that he had taken Bratislava, but at heavy cost. The entire 33rd had been whiped out along with more than half of his men. The remainder was tired but now well battle hardened and maintained high morale despite the losses and lack of food. He rested his men in Bratislava largly unnoticed by the forces of the Protectorate. Only a few regiments had tried to displace him. But on May 15th he learned that an entire Arbiter Army was returning from the front to destroy him he immedialty left for the capital at Berlin. It became a desperate race, and one Derrick was determined to win.
The race to Berlin was a close loss. When the Arbiter forces reached the city Derrick turned and fled. He couldnt face another battle with only 20 000. He reached Vienna on May 23rd 2007 and stopped to refuel. On June 1st he became aware that the Arbiter navy had been beaten and 200 000 Shakal troops landed on there north beaches. The Shakal also won a decisive victory in the Balkans forcing the massive army back. Derrick was in the way and decided to shred them. On June 3rd he met the first bit of the retreating Arbiter armies. They didnt suspect Derrick would attack and were massacared by his ambushes and decoy plans. Out of the 100 000 men in the Arbiter vanguard over 45 000 were casualties. Derrick was forced to withdraw on June 9th to prevent envelopment.
He was still in Slovenia when he heard of the Arbiters peace offer. They surrendered on June 11th at 11am of 2007. He was rewarded with the Gold Cross for his valour and promoted to Field Marshall. After the war he returned home, this time he was a very well known war hero that was well repected and well recieved by all.
After The Anti-Shakal Conflict
Unfortunaltly on June 12th the Emperor passed away leaving Derricks old friend, and the Emperors daughter, Kristina Schraepl II to rule the Empire. Derrick was appointed head of the Imperial Godess Guards by the Empress. The entire 15th Panscrier formed the core of it. Select units were also picked form the 21st and the other divisions that were under Derricks command. By June 16th the country was awaiting the Empresses coronation. Derrick remained a good friend to her and made sure it was all well secured and prepared before she stepped out onto the Imperial Plate and became official ruler of the Empire.
Marraige
Derrick and the Empress were stunned to find out that under Imperial law an Empress must be married in under a month or lose control of the country. It was originally put in place in the times when women were married off at 14 and didnt count on the society of today. For three weeks Derrick and Kristina searched for a suitable husband for her. None were found. Four days before the deadline was up Derrick came up with a plan. The two were married three days later.
Rebellion
After the marraige rebels attacked government buildings agry that they were under the command of a woman. Derrick lead the army and crushed the rebellion in only a few weeks. It was during this time that a man from the Black Agents arrived in the Empire to assasinate the Empress. This was foiled by the Shakal security forces. The Empress turned 18 on July 3rd 2007.
Alexandria Ptolymias Trade Confrence
Deciding to take a break from it all the Empress and Derrick went to the Trade Confrence in Alexandria Ptolymias. It proved very useful and allowed the S.I.N Samantha to be seen by the world. The Empire negotiated its most friutful deal with the Wagdog delegates. This is often looked upon as remarkable since the country of Wagdog is a socialist state. The Shakal Empire is strongly Dictorial.
Excursion In Maxxenburg
After returning from Alexandria Ptolymias Derrick was sent with some Imperial rifleman into the country of Maxxenburg. He operated carefully always ensuring that the Shakal were never implicated in the attacks on the Gossian forces remaining after the war. He also met with General Scharnhorst over strategy several times. The Shakal guerrilas under his leadership took out over 50 armor throughout the rebellion. They drew to much attention after sackinga Gossian supply dump and had to return to the Empire or fear war.
