Geography

Deutsch – Rheinland has urban areas as well as a beautiful unspoilt landscape. There are lots of forests and mountain ranges that invite every tourist to go hiking there. The north offers a seaside landscape of unseen beauty, especially in the waters around Venus Island and Schwalbich Island. All in all, Deutsch – Rheinland can be divided into five geographic main regions. They are (from north to south): Venus and Schwalbich Islands, the Northern Rhinish Plain (main lowlands at the coast), the Central Ranges, the Southern Rhinish Valley, and the Argons Mountains in the south-east. The highest peak is the Hochspitzner (3,019 meters). The longest river is the Rhine (German: Rhein).

International (meaning transcontinental) flights are offered from the country’s main airports in Wuppertal, Rhenonia, and Karlsfurt. Additionally, there are a number of smaller regional airports, too.

People

The character of the people of Deutsch – Rheinland is often described as disciplined, firm, hard-working, and very proper. Besides that, tradition also plays a big role in many people’s lives. Especially in the south-west, which is the most rural part of the country, people will still wear their traditional dresses and exercise their customs when you meet them. The people of Deutsch – Rheinland love dancing, music, and culture in general. The national art gallery in Wuppertal shows thousands of paitings of renowned Rheinlandish artists. Deutsch – Rheinland is also known for its unique food and – most of all – beer. The country’s only official language is German. But there is a number of languages that are understood in most parts of the country, although they have no official status: e.g. English, French, Swedisch, and Turkish. There are minority languages spoken on Venus and Schwalbich Islands that are only locally official. Of all the people in Deutsch - Rheinland, 62% are Catholics, 29% are Protestants (mostly Lutherans and some Baptists), 5% are Muslim, and there is a 4% minority of people who are atheist or have another denomination.

Political System

Deutsch – Rheinland is a parliamentary democracy.

Legislative: The legislative branch of government consists of two bodies. Firstly, there is the Reichstag with its 500 delegates who are elected directly by the people. The second body is the Reichsrat, which consists of 24 delegates. Those delegates of the Reichsrat are representatives of the parliaments of the single states, or Länder. There are 12 Länder, 2 delegates for each. The draft of a new law has to be passed in both houses in order to become a bill.
