The Grand Dominion of Drakonian Imperium is an ancient federal mixed government (containing the elements of monarchy and democracy), located primarily on the eastern portion continent of Nusquam Esse and the Lesser Antilles islands in the southeastern Caribbean. Drakonia shares Nusquam Esse with the Executorial Republic of Tersanctus to the west and the Federation of Glorious Humanity to the south. It retains close relations with both nations.
Established for the purpose of mutual defense over two millennia ago, the Imperium is aggressively protective of its citizen and their rights. Despite a strong conservative history, Imperium also is a stalwart supportor of political freedoms and civil rights, which has led to the controversial foriegn policy of interventionism. Traditionally, the Imperium has been unwilling to join alliances which would restrict its sovereignty. However, the Imperium founded the United Emirates alliance alongside its neighbor Tersanctus and is a member of the enigmatic Gholgoth. It also participates and honors a number of other various treaties and agreements.
Etymology
The name Drakonia is derived from the ancient Drakonian Draconigena, meaning Dragon-Born, which come from legends of an advanced civilization created by Dragons that flourishing in the eastern portion of Nusquam Esse. Eventually the derivation Drakonia came to represent that section of the continent. When the Drakonian Imperium was formed, the name was taken to represent the entire confederation.
Because of this, Drakonia has can have multiple meanings. Most often it is used to refer to the entire Drakonian Imperium. However, it is also the name of a Realm in the Imperium, comprising the region on Nusquam Esse first called Drakonia.
The Drakonian Imperium is also often simply referred to as the Imperium and rarely, as the Grand Dominion. The formal abbreviation is D.I. Citizens of the Imperium are referred to as being Drakonian, which is also used as the common adjective (as in the case of the Imperial Drakonian Military as compared to "I am a Drakonian"). Colloquially Drakonians are sometimes referred to as Drakos, or as a Drako singularly. However, this is primarily used to referred to those of Drakonian descent and enthicity rather than citizens of the Imperium. Drako is rarely used derogatorial, but it is extremely rare for it to be considered as such. Drako is also a common formal possessive adjective, as in the Drako Antilles.
While Drakonian is the common way to refer generally to citizens of the Imperium various regional demonym are used in different parts of the Imperium. In Trinidad, citizens are sometimes referred to as Trinidadian (or Trini informally, both in singular and plural). In Oregius, they are sometimes referred to as Oregians, or in Shinzo Golanus as Golans, in Sava as Savans, etc. These also refer to specific racial ethnicities prevalent in those areas.
Drakonian is also the name of the Official Language of the Drakonian Imperium.
History
The Drakonian Imperium was founded by the City-States of Drakonia and the Queendom of Trinidad, at the beginning of the 3rd Century (B.C.). The nations united in 293 B.C., following defeating the invading Golanus Mountain Tribes as they tried to conquer the prosperous City-States. At the beginning the new alliance was nothing more than a loose confederation, however as the developed its government shifted toward its current form.
As the Imperium develop it government shift toward a more centralized federation and the nation expanded it border by driving the Golan Tribes back into the mountains. Its expansion led to a number of conflicts with the Sanctus Empire (what would eventually become the Republic of Tersanctus).
After over twenty two Centuries in existance the Imperium became embroiled into a civil war in the year 1944 A.D.. The conflict was breif and quickly resolved, however the mismanagement of the nation prior and the violence during the conflict left the nation in a vulnerable position. A position which its long time rival, the Sanctus Empire, exploited. The resulting war nearly destroyed both nations and was only resolved when a civil war in the Sanctus Empire toppled the government and establish the free and democratic Executorial Republic of Tersanctus.
Together Tersanctus and Drakonia made peace and establish close relations through a United Emiratus between them. The two nations worked together to rebuild themselves and again establish themselves as powers in the world.
