In Brief

El Hefe is a moderate sized nation in the Amazon basin that espouses a mix of public sector capitalism and government socialism. Like many South American nations it has it's roots in colonial policy though it's roots are in the corporate colonial policy of the early 21st century. Corporate mining interests bought the area from the local governments and after years of draconian corporate policy there was a widespread worker revolt and the corporate government was replaced by a communist council. This council in turn fell due to disatisfaction over too many broken promises and it was replaced by a western socio-capitalist democracy. This government has been in place since then and has lasted through several presidents and several scandals.

Population Note

The population of El Hefe is fixed at 1/12th of it's size as shown in NationStates. This also applies to all other areas - budget, timeline, and similar numbers.

National Description

Location

El Hefe is located in the Amazon basin of South America just north of the former nation of Bolivia. It stretches over the headwaters of the Amazon all the way up into the Andes with it's northern-most borders following the southern border of the former Venezula and Columbia. The capital, Porto Yello, is in the eastern portion of the nation at the site of the present city of the same name.

Name

El Hefe means The Boss in spanish and it aquired the name through the local media. When the area was under the control of several resource harvesting conglomerates these corporations formed a council to keep conflicts from breaking out between themselves. This group came to be known as El Hefe by the local media and this spread to the world media as well. When the communist council and later the democratic government came to power attempts were made to change the name but it had taken too deep of root. El Hefe has been known as that ever since.

Government

The government operates as a western style open democracy with the government handling (Paused for more later).
