Enjoining is a legal term that frequently means to prescribe a particular action with authority or emphasis. When used in this sense is it a strong term. It is sometimes used in documents such as United Nations resolutions as an operative phrase.

It was first used in NationStates in the Unconventional Arms Accord resolution. Since the term was not regularly used before, a small portion of the UN floor debate focused on further defining the term.
