Forever in the shadow of Alejo Cuevo, Ernesto Fortuna was always a mere 'backup' player to the greats who had come before. Even Gbenga Ogunniya and Keiran Rabalais, old and out-of-form that they were, were still getting starting spots ahead of Ernesto. Part of what was considered to be a general dearth of World-Class defensive midfielders at the time (Cuevo restrospectively removed), Fortuna was relegated to subsitute appearances and the AOCAF, which he promptly went and won as a 26 year-old back-up.
Whether he graduates to a starting position or remains as a mere back-up has yet to be decided, though. World Cup 26 is his next oppurtunity to really shine.
