The Free Republic of Esternarx is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 923 million enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.
There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Commerce, with areas such as the Environment and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Retail industries.
Psychological disorders are a taboo subject, homeless people are periodically found dead upon altars to assorted deities, murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honour, and the people of Esternarx are renowned for their nihilistic attitudes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Esternarx's national animal is the phoenix, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the trade credit(も).
History
The Birth of Esternarx
On February 5, 1990, a fairly large revolutionary group from TheNeoRomanEmpire boarded several ships bound for the unclaimed area known as Norway and settled on the western coast. They founded the city of Esternarx, naming it after the only land entrance to the vast city, The Eastern Arch. Emais Freedhelm, the leader of the group, became president of The Free City-State of Esternarx. Vast, sweeping reforms in civil rights, political freedom, and economic liberty were put into place as the president drafted a constitution for their new independent nation. Under their new leader, the people of Esternarx were fast becoming freer and more prosperous than even NeoRome.
The Age of The Arx Corporation
The Arx Corporation was founded by Jacob Vargas in 1999. It began as a small arms manufacturing business but eventually began developing computers, automobiles, and even medicine. The Arx Corporation provided millions of jobs for the people of Esternarx and provided their customers with world class goods and services. This made the corporation extremely wealthy and powerful. They were even more powerful than the government itself at one time. It alone accounted for almost half of the GDP of Esternarx and owned almost one-fourth of the property.
They began development of biological and chemical weapons in a division of the corporation known as Arkotech Labs in August of 2001. This alarmed the international community and economic sanctions were threatened against Esternarx. Soon thereafter, they put these weapons on the open international market, further outraging the nations of the world. Military action was threatened against Esternarx but never officially carried out.
On December 19, 2001, biological weapons were unleashed in Arkotech Labs, killing hundreds of employees and effectively ending the development and production of all biological and chemical weapons. It is still uncertain as to exactly how this happened, theories ranged from a terrorist attack to a vast government conspiracy, but the final verdict was that it was a mere computer malfunction. Arx Corporation stock dropped like a bomb and the international share holders were left holding worthless stock certificates and lawsuit notices. Jacob Vargas commited suicide a day after the incident. The shattered remains of the company were sold off to the highest bidder and the Arx Tower, formerly the largest building in the city, was demolished.
The First Colonization of America
For some time, Esternarx had been planning the establishment of a colony in North America. Finally, on February 18, 2002, almost three million colonists arrived in the abandoned city of Boston and established The Free American Colony of Esternarx under the elected colonial governor, Jackson Stone. The new colony was quickly populated by more Esternarxian citizens seeking a better life in the new world and its population soon grew to over 15 million people.
The colonization of America was not completely smooth however. Soon after the colonists arrived, the government of a neighboring nation, Durick Veta, was attacked by communist rebels. They assassinated the ruler's wife and took over the nation. The crumbling government purchased a mercenary army from Paladin Manufacturing, a large corporation operating out of Esternarx, to help quell the revolution and restore law and order in the nation.
Neo-Nazi Attack and Aftermath
On March 19, 2003, the Neo-Nazi Rebellion(NNR), smuggled a 10 megaton nuclear bomb inside Esternarx City and detonated it, killing over 300 million people. The Free-City State of Esternarx was completely destroyed. Radiation from the nuclear blast covered Scandinavia but soon international aid was dispatched and the effects minimized.
Meanwhile, The Free American Colony of Esternarx across the Atlantic and the city of Boston in particular was soon in a state of panic and widespread destruction as the news of their destroyed motherland reached their ears. The colonial government was overthrown and two rival extremist factions began a fight for control. The Neo-Nazi Rebellion(NNR) and the Anti Neo-Nazi Rebellion(ANNR) both participated in rioting and burning of the city as well as genocidal civilian killings. Many nations from all over the world helped to stop the uprising but eventually, the newly re-established Durick Veta saved the colony from destruction at the hands of the radicals and annexed it to their own nation.
The Re-Birth of Esternarx
Several million colonists escaped the nuclear attack and began a long trip to New Zealand to establish a new nation there. Daren Freedhelm, the younger brother of the former president, was elected president of The New Republic of Esternarx on April 3, 2003. They quickly rebounded from the tragedy of losing their homeland and their economy soon became one of the most powerful in the world.
An explosion of population due to immigration from all over the world to Esternarx quickly filled the borders of the nation to overflowing. The only solution was to annex more lands. On January 21, 2005, Tasmania, New Caledonia, Victoria, New South Wales, and part of South Australia were integrated into the New Republic of Esternarx under different names. Before the annexation, Esternarx consisted of Norderain and Sutherain. After the annexation, they gained the lands of Caldenya, Rhodes, Estenshire, and Estenmont.
The Second Colonization of America (Mayazteka)
On October 2, 2005, an attempt was made to colonize Central America. All the lands formerly owned by Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama were colonized by Esternarx and renamed The Esternarxian Colonial Republic of Mayazteka. The only area within those bounds not colonized by Esternarxian Mayazteka was the Panama Canal, which remained owned and operated by The Quecha.
Within a year, the colony of Mayazteka peacefully seceded from Esternarx and formed an independent and sovereign nation. The Free Commonwealth of Mayazteka, as it became known, was basically a loose confederacy of thousands of privately owned governments that made their own laws and competed with each other for citizens. This helped to eliminate inefficiency and corruption in the government as no government that oppressed it's citizens could continue to do so without their people's consent. If you didn't like the laws of the government you were currently a part of, you could either switch to a different government, create a new one altogether, or buy an existing one if you could afford to. Pancho Villa VII, the former colonial governor, became the president of the most popular government in Mayazteka and became widely regarded as the international spokesperson for the entire commonwealth.
The Third Colonization of America (Texarado)
On November 28, 2005, Esternarx purchased the area formerly known as Texas from New Nag Ehgoeg, a colony of Nag Ehgoeg, and created The Esternarxian Colony of Texarado. Part of the Texas Purchase agreement was that Nag Ehgoeg would retain all of the oil-drilling rights in their former land. Texarado expanded soon after its founding into the lands formerly known as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and the south-east corner of Colorado.
Around the same time that Mayazteka was seceding, Texarado also seceded and formed their own government. This government was run by President Kinky Friedman, who instituted policies of corporate welfare and compulsory consumerism in the name of economic growth, effectively turning Texarado's government into a sprawling beaurocracy controlled by corrupt monopolistic businessmen. All small business was eliminated by heavy taxation and laborers were turned into practical slaves of the major corporations. The people were extremely dissatisfied by this new government and longed for a return to the old Esternarxian law.
A revolutionary named Antonio De La Rosa appeared and claimed to have the answer to Texarado's problems. He started a communist revolution that succeeding in killing the president Kinky Friedman and overthrowing the government. But while instituting a new iron fist communist regime, he refused to comply with the Texas Purchase agreement and seized the property of Nag Ehgoegian oil fields. This enraged Nag Ehgoeg and with the help of several other nations, they invaded Texarado by landing in Houston and marching to the capital. Once there, they overthrew the communist regime and re-instated the former vice-president Francisco Rodriguez to power. He returned to his policies of political oppression and without any reasonable opposition he took it to a new extreme by outlawing all private property and becoming an absolute dictator.
A look-alike of Antonio De La Rosa was killed but the real Comrade General was never found. Some conspiracy theorists believed he was Francisco Rodriguez in disguise and the entire communist rebellion was just a ploy to eliminate opposition and get rid of President Friedman so he could take control of the government and turn it into a dictatorship. This, however, is all just rumor.

Government
The government of Esternarx consists of three levels, each with two branches, but all are subject to the set of objective laws laid out in the Constitution. The three levels are the federal government, the provincial governments, and the county governments. They each have a judicial branch and an executive branch. There is no legislative branch in Esternarx because laws are based on the constitution and no new laws are drafted. As far as new issues that arise, the judicial branch is responsible for interpreting how the laws of the constitution apply.
The federal government is the highest level of government in Esternarx and consists of an executive and judicial branch. The executive branch consists of a president and a senate. Their job is to manage the armed forces and protect the nation from foreign attack. The judicial branch consists of a supreme court whose job it is to interpet the constitution and apply it to issues and cases that may arise on a national scale.
The provincial governments are the middle level of government and consist of an executive and judicial branch. The executive branch consists of a governor and a provincial senate whose job it is to manage the provincial police forces and protect their province from domestic conflict. The judicial branch consists of a provincial court that interprets the constitution to apply to issues and cases that may arise on a province-wide scale.
The county governments are the lowest level of government and consist of an executive and judicial branch. The executive branch consists of a mayor whose job it is to manage the city police forces and maintain law and order within the city area. The judicial branch consists of a city council court whose job it is to interpret the constitution and apply it to issues and cases that may arise on a county-wide scale.

Norderain is the most technologically advanced province in Esternarx and is covered completely by seven sprawling cities. The cities are now no longer separated but have merged together into one massive metropolis. Giant steel and glass skyscrapers dwarf the small mountains around them as they reach ever higher up towards the heavens. Despite the high amount of industry and commerce in Norderain, it is relatively pollution free as nuclear plants provide cheap and clean fission power.

Sutherain is a land of unspoiled wilderness and religious fanaticism. Christchurch is the only European style city worth mentioning and is home to the largest roman catholic population in Esternarx. A massive renaissance style cathedral overlooks the glittering bay and it is easily the largest building in the province. Virtually all of Sutherain outside of Christchurch consists of sparsely populated wilderness. Maori tribes are practically the only people in the province outside of Christchurch.

2) Coral reefs off the coast of East Caldenya
Caldenya is practically isolated from the rest of Esternarx and has a warmer climate than the other provices, making it a popular vacation destination. Though it has a large deposit of tin in the hills, mining is not a major industry here compared to tourism and entertainment. It is a tropical island with shimmering white beaches surrounded by one of the largest coral reefs in the world. It is a stunningly beautiful place and if you can afford it, the many luxury resorts, hotels, and casinos provide refuge from an otherwise dull and dreary world.

2) Rhodes Library in Rhodes City
Rhodes is a land of high education and rich history. Home to Rhodes University, one of the most prestigious schools in the region, the province is world renowned for its well informed and intelligent population. Next door to Rhodes University is the Rhodes Library, a massive building filled with books of every kind and from every nation in the world. A large population of NeoRoman immigrants live in New Providence, making it a great tourist destination for learning more about Esternarx's NeoRoman heritage.

Estenshire
2) Farmland in western Ouyen
Estenshire is the southernmost of the two provinces on the eastern coast of Australia. The population is denser the more south you go in the province and peaks at the large city of New Boston, formerly known as Melbourne. A large population of immigrants from the first Esternarxian American colony live in Estenshire and many of the refugees that escaped from the turmoil in Texarado have moved here as well. The land is very rich, making agriculture the largest industry in the province. Fishing is also very important as you near the coast, making Estenshire the bread-basket of Esternarx.

2) Sydney Opera House in the city of Opera
Estenmont is the northernmost of two provinces on the eastern coast of Australia. Most of the population is situated along the coast as the inland portion of the province is desert outback. The largest city is Opera, formerly known as Sydney. The province is rich in natural resources such as metals and in the southwest corner of the province there is a substantial uranium deposit. Because of this, mining is a large part of the economy there.
