Eternia is a small region. It is inhabited by only a few dozen million people, in only a few nations.
An interesting thing to note is that Eternians have an irrational and overriding fear of the ocean. It is because of this that only the continent that these countries are located on have been mapped. It is fully possible that other nations exist that have not been encountered yet. The only exception to this is the people of Liilte Hong Kong, an island only 1,000 feet off of the mainland, which can be walked to since the water between them is no more than 3 feet deep. The people of Liilte Hong Kong are among the few people in Eternia who eat any form of seafood. This is also why no nation in Eternia had a navy until recently. Little is known about the historical reasopns for this hydrophobia, but it is suspected that some catastrophic event happened in the past that killed a large number of people causing those who remained to stay away from the ocean.
History
Eternia is a small island in the pacific ocean. Until recently, it had been completely undisturbed in the world. Then, in the 1980s, it was encountered by a Soviet military ship. The influx of knowledge from this contact, along with the immigration that followed, is the primary cause of the factionalization of Eternia, bringing into existance the 5 nations, each with a different socio-economic view on how things should be. Each of the nations feels that it is the rightful leader of the entirety of Eternia, and that the whole island should conform to it's policies.
Recent Events
As of 4/6/07, Eternia entered an economic recession, when Neo-Rus's economy imploded. As a result of that implosion, both the Confederacy of Liberal Men and Women's and the Principality of the Daes Dae-Mar's economies have shown a definite drop in activity, and currency value due to the lost markets.
Due to this recession, the regional total GDP has dropped from it's original value of $291 billion to it's current value of 156,603,915,547.35 in just one Eternian year. That is an almost 47% decrease; but, Neo-Rus seems to be on the mends, though it is still very much in danger of complete economic collapse, and the regional GDP, while increasing, is for the most part increasing slower than the population is leading to a decreasing GDP per capita.
Recently, The Oppressed People of Liilte China have launched an unprovoked attack against the Untied Socialist States of Neo-Rus, causing an international incident, and earning Liilte China scorn from it's other Eternian neighbors.
This was followed 18 years later by another aggressive war by Liilte China.
