History of Ethereal Blue
Ethereal Blue was founded on July 17th 2007 by some Alpha Centaurians on a diplomatic mission, who were fascinated by the pleasant landscape and rich wildlife, which made them abandon their mission and stay. Open minded and immune against noise, the Alpha Centaurian founders didn't mind to shelter immigrants who had been exiled from their homelands by angry neighbours because of so-called noise-pollution (a constant source of arguments, as the exiled consider this being rock'n'roll music). Thus the population of Ethereal Blue soon rose to about 12 millions and still is increasing, as rock addicts from all over the universe keep surging into the country. Meanwhile most Alpha Centaurians have retreated from political day-to-day business and have specialized in scientific research while the Terran population somehow deals with political and administrative matters on their own, that's to say should they feel the need for doing so.
Geography
Ethereal Blue is located in the region of Yiya in the neighbourhood of the Armed Republic of Zufaelligkeit, the Holy Empire of Saint Nietzsche and the Free Land of Scientific Atheism. With its mountains in the northwestern parts of the country providing many clear streams and rivers, Ethereal Blue is widely covered with lush forests and pastures. These are home for many plants and animals which are in danger of going extinct elsewhere; aside of the vast number of Somali Cats roaming the forests, Ethereal Blue holds remarkable numbers of the rare Wolpertinger and the related Rasselbock.
Cities
Aside from Ethereal Blues capital Bubastis only small villages exist in order to keep the exceptional environment intact.
Population and Languages
The following figures won't claim to be exact, as the Etherial Blues people never bothered with counting the population. The population consists of approximately 5% Alpha Centaurians, 80% Terrans originating from various nations and 15% other Extraterrestrians from different solar systems.
As Terrans are the majority, the most common language spoken is English, followed by German. The Alpha Centaurians still speak their native language, but usually speak English in public, as Alpha Centaurian is nearly impossible to be spoken by Terrans due to physical reasons. Some religious ceremonies are held in Ancient Egypt Language due to traditon.
Economy
In order to preserve Ethereal Blues environments, industrial development as well as agriculture are strictly regulated, but provide a decent variety of goods of high quality. Small farms and an occasional marijuana plantage or distillery fit in the landscape, while skilled craftsmen have their shops in the villages as well as in the capital. Especially the basket weavers can boast of a well-earned reputation that goes well beyond Ethereal Blues borders. Other important economical factors are the thriving Soda Sales and Retail industry, which are mainly located at the outskirts of Bubastis. Taxes are on a decent level and not collected very thoroghly. The currency is the Catnip.
Politics
The Alpha Centaurians left government matters to the Terran and other population and now live reclusively in their laboratory areas, which are off limits for the rest of the population. As nobody really cares, elections and polls are spontaneously held when a reasonable number of citizens considers them necessary and is able to find volunteers to organize such an event. There is no steady system of processing an election. From duels to literary contests, anything goes as long as there are folks insane or stoned enough (or maybe both) to participate. The current chief True Steel has been elected by being the last survivor of a last-man-standing shootout. Ethereal Blue recently has been elected the regions UN-delegate.
National Symbols
Ethereal Blues national animal is the ferocious Somali Cat, which is also displayed on the countries flag and has become a protected species, after ruthless slaughterhouse owners tried to land a severe blow on the countries foundations by trying to produce snacks of them. It symbolizes willpower and the freedom of spirit.
The national flower is the catnip plant.
National Anthem is Cheap Tequila .
National Holidays are: February 2nd (Groundhog Day, March 17th (St. Patricks Day), May 25th (Towel Day) and August 8th (World Cat Day).
Religions and Culture
Originally, the majority of the Ethereal Blue people worshipped the ancient Egypt Goddess Bastet due to the nations thriving cat population. Specially trained priests hold the ceremonies in Ancient Egypt Language and maintain the luxurious cat cemeteries. Offerings of delicious cat food are always appreciated by the temple cats. It is strictly forbidden to harm a cat and doing so might very well cause a riot. To honour the Goddess, the first settlers named the capital Bubastis after her ancient sacred city in Egypt and made the Somali Cat the national animal. Recently the younger religions of the Pastafarians, who are worshipping the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the congregation of the worshippers of the Invisible Pink Unicorn have grown significantly.
Most non-Centaurian citizens have in common a special affinity to blues and rock'n'roll, which results in a very lively nightlife even in small villages with festivals and dancing events all over the place. Band contests between schools and universities are common; usually the winner is who provided the highest decibel outburst. The guitar is the most common instrument and has proven extremely useful, as this not only secures a constant flow of sound throughout the country, but also has proven to be nearly as effective at scaring away bears and taxmen as a heavy gun. Saves a lot of ammu which is much better for the environment. Along with this, especially the young compete fiercely doing graffities and performing neckbreaking dancing styles, rollerblades and bike stunts, the latter frequently resulting in a significant number of premature deaths, which might be considered a natural regulation to keep population growth in check.
