The 1997/98 FAV Premier League season was the debut of all the top flight teams. Everybody in Valertinette was looking forward to the first pro matches, they weren't disappointed!
On Matchday 1, August 23rd 1997, Valerin City CF had been drawn against Ki Orka CF, the Capital City versus the smallest island. More than 13,000 people turned up for the match. The final score was Valerin City CF - 4, Ki Orka CF - 3, with Valerins best striker, Iuli Jiaka, scoring all four for the team. On the same day Valer CF defeated Yiumi 3-1.
Valerin continued to wow the crowds as they beat Beiko United 3-2 on the second day of the season. Jiaka scored twice. Valerin City won there next two games before coming up against next-to-bottom Yiumi. This time neither team scored as Valerin were held to a 0-0 draw.
The next week heralded the biggest matchup of the season, Valer CF vs. Valerin City CF. Valer were currently 5th having won 2 but lost 3, Valerin were at the top, undefeated. Valer CF won 2-0. Thye returned to winning ways the next week however as they beat Iomi 3-0. They then won the next two while Valer could only draw.
On November 1st, Matchday 10, Valerin faced Ki Orka again. This time Ki Orka put up more of a fight, scraping a 3-2 victory. December 6th marked the big day again and it was a thriller. Valer were up 3-0 but Jiaka scored 4 times to put Valerin City in front. It wasn't to be however as Valer then scored twice in 5 minutes and claimed a 5-4 win.
On Matchday 19, Valerin got revenge on Ki Orka, beating them 4-2. On January 10th Valerin City arrived on Valertinette Piccola ready to face Beiko again. In a 5-1 loss Valerin got 3 players and the manager sent off. He was promptly sacked the day after. A week later Valer took 1st in the table away from Valerin as they beat Iomi 3-2 while Valerin could only draw. Without a manager they then lost to CF Nakaro 3-1 on the 24th of January. Valer also lost 4-1 to Yema.
Valerin drew a week later, but the week after that Valer and Valerin met again, and again Valer won, this time 2-1 and noone was sent off.
Valerin lost 1-0 to Uguardin on the 21st of March, the manager, who had only been in charge a few weeks, was sacked. Two weeks later they lost again and then again a week later. Valer beat them 3-1. Then they lost again, this time 4-1 to Iomi. They returned to winning ways a week later though as they beat Yeam 4-2.
The season ended on April 25th with Valerin drawing 2-2 with Hidetoki. Valer won against CF Nakaro 3-1, they were the first FAV Premier League champions. Beiko then beat Yema 1-0 which meant they finished 2nd, knocking Valerin City to 3rd. CF Nakaro were relegated to the union league, they finished 10 points behind the other teams. Tine Athletiko would replace them in 1998.
