The Interstellar Empire of Firehelper is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 3.42 billion are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Information Technology industries.

The government has instituted 'traveller reservations' across the country, corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians, organ donation is compulsory, and 'Mountain Doobie' is widely regarded as the nation's favourite drink. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Firehelper's national animal is the Wildlife, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Credit.

history

The Empire of Fireheleper is large and diverse. Its history originates in china with the construction of the treasure fleet in ancient. These ships lost the majority of their supply ships and had to look for land to stop for supplies. The ships incidentally found land. This land was what was known to the locals as the Land of Fire. The land had no suitable trees in the distance that the men could see. Therefore, the men eventually decided to settle on the islands rather than try and make it back home. These men would come to be known as “fire helpers” by the locals and they introduced their technology and culture to the islanders.

Around a decade after this event suitable wood was found. However, since many of the men had already found wives and had families the people decided to continue to stay. The local people proved very adept at learning new things and soon cities began springing up over the very large islands, the size of which no one knew at the time. Chinese culture and technology spread over the archipelago by the year 1500 in the Georgian calendar.

The landing spot of the Chinese became known generally as firehelper in remembrance of the people that came to the islands and gave them culture. Over time Chinese became the dominant language as technology grew. The people on the islands were innovative and had no problems advancing technology with the materials available. During a period of regression in the 1600s the technology on the islands fell back to the European technological level.

For the next 200 years the islands remained undisturbed and its culture flourished. However one day the now Chinese speaking people of the islands saw large ships on the horizon. As these ships approached the coast they began shelling the forts that dotted the coast in the event of such an incident. Much to the suprise of the unknown ships they shot back. These canons were descended from the cannons used by the Chinese in the 12th century. However, these cannons were rifled and larger. The sloped walls of the ford protected better against the ships fire and eventually the ships were repelled. However, this was only the first of many encounters by Europeans. The people of firehelper then once again began to readily develop weapons. Soon rifled rifles began to replace repeating crossbows and the primary weapon of the military.

In 1856 after several failed attacks on the islands the British navy, the fleet responsible for the attacks and its head made a peace with the island and a fragile alliance. In return for trading on the island the British government offered to help the islands technologically as advancements progressed. With this agreement the islands prospered trading their unique almost Chinese culture for the British industrial equipment and technical knowledge.

The islands stayed out of world war one and two. However, in 1990 a political upheaval made a puppet of the emperor and made the country isolationist once more. In this time the country severed ties with the outside world. However, they kept up on developments with spies and informants in other nations and developed technology accordingly. It was in this manner that in 2005 when the country emerged out of isolation they were as advanced as they could possibly be. However, even with this some technologies (armor, computers, aircraft) lagged behind as the government focused its money on advancing only certain technologies (naval, energy, some others).
