Foamed alloy construction is one of the key technological developments employed in the Holy Empire of Excalbia's Mark V Shipbuilding Programme. This construction technique employs metal alloy foam. The foam is created by combining a mixture of metal powder and other materials with a foaming agent. This creates an extremely lightweight but durable material with a porous, bone-like structure.

In addition to being very strong and lightweight, foamed alloys are heat resistant, naturally bouyant and much stronger than normal metal alloys.

Foam alloys can be formed into sheets or tubes, or sprayed on a wire frame. This allows foamed alloys to be used to form a wide variety of smooth, precision shapes.
