Fod, officially The United Empire of Fodmodmadtol ( Latin: Imperium Foda ), is located in epsilon eridani, along with various territories across the universe. It's inhabited by a culturally affluent population of over six billion. The government has fluctuated between communal, free market, liberal, and tyrannic policies. Fod has been proven to be one of the most unstable nations still in existance. A libertarian socialist government is currently in control. The Fodist people are infamously rebellious at home, though crime is virtually unknown thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Fod has remained in isolation for most of its existence.

Etymology

Land

The geography of Fod is greatly varied due to its unique territorial possessions. Fodmodmadtol is located in Epsilon Eridani, the planet Loki. The planet and system have proven to be stable over time.

Terrain

Main article(s): Land of Fodmodmadtol

Gabriel
The average temperature is 20°C with little precipitation. The islands of Gabriel ( from north to south ) are Lebanon, Tehran, and Gaza. There's little differentiation between the seasons. Gabriel divides the Old Sea and the Serpent's Tongue. This area is vulnerable to earthquakes.
Imo
Imo has an average temperature of 16°C with moderate precipitation. Summers are hot, humid and short. Winter is usually a short season as well, only moderately chilling. In the extreme north-east are the Baffin Mountains (8,800 m), the only major mountain range in Imo. The Ali'a Plateau extends from the Old Sea to The Orient, and is known to be the most fertile farming land in the nation. Between the Floral Sea and Serpent's Tongue are the Floral Plains, a low lying area responsible for draining flood water into the sea.
Sek
Sek has an average temperature of 4°C with a heavy amount of precipitation year round. The continent experiences very cold winters, with short cool summers. Extending south from the Imo juncture are the Floral-Winter Mountains (4,400 m), and along the eastern coast are the Orient-Knight Mountains (5,600 m). The Kach Basin (Central Sek) separates the mountains, and consists mostly of tundra. To the south-east are Knight Waters which remain frozen indefinitely. Winter Sea deteriorates in the summer. Western Sek is generally more habitable with accommodation highlands and little gradient. The Ocean of Tweek is off the east, the Serpent's Tongue is off the north.

Date & Time

The Fodist Domestic Standard (FDS) was created by the Yoshi Regime to regulate date and time. Before the FDS system was set in place, date and time were measured by abstract regional standards over which business couldn't transfer. Doctor Freedman, in conjunction with the Academy of Truth, devised the FDS system by calculating the movement of Loki in Epsilon Eridani. The calendar has 360 Die, held in 60 Hebdoma, held in 12 Mensi, held in one Annu. Consequently, 6 Die are held in a Hebdoma, 30 Die and 5 Hebdoma held in a Mensi.

History

Armistice

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">11414364658.png
Amun
</div>

By the turn of 1390 three major nations dominated Fod; Troj, Pars and Rjok. A century of fighting with one another over territorial possessions, specifically Cairo, had led to troubled times. With Troj on the edge of collapse, Amun, the Lord of Troj, called an armistice. Amun invited the lords of Pars and Rjok, Mont and Horu respectively, to convene at Cairo in 1393. Talk started immediately, and almost ended the same day. While Amun was able to settle the dispute with Mont and Horu, the others wouldn't settle with either. Horu left Cairo set on continuing war. In 1396, with war on every front, Amun once again invited Mont and Horu to Cairo. Horu refused to appear. With him absent, Amun and Mont talked easily, and an agreement was reached within the summer. Troj and Pars would become united and conquer Rjok, the reason for all trouble. Amun offered his daughter, Nyx, as a peace offering to Mont. Completely shocked by this sign of devotion, Mont refused, insisting that Nyx be treated with the highest of respect. In 1399, Rjok was conquered. Amun and Mont agreed to remain united, and created Fod as it's now known. They agreed that Nyx, a symbol of empathy, would take charge when they died.

Old Fod

Nyx was handed control of Fod in 1400. For the next century relatively little occurred. Nyx formed the government into a more solid being, edicts passed quietly improving commerce and living quality. People were generally content. Nyx met with representatives from across the Empire throughout this period and drafted the Governing Charter of Fodmodmadtol. It was declared law in 1410. It wasn't until 1490 the first signs of trouble appeared. In an explosive wake up call, the Fod government came under attack in an event known as the Massacre at the Ministry. Countless were injured and a high ranking government official was assassinated. The attack revealed a shocking scandal in Fod government, and from this point on a feeling of resentment would begin to grow. An anarchic movement appeared after Fod government published Radicalist Report, 1490. People demanded reform. In 1600 there was an attack in Cairo in which Fod government facilities were taken by rebels. Cairo was besieged until the following year when the rebellion collapsed. Nyx was abducted during the occupation. She was never seen again.

Early Fod

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">YOSHI.png
Yoshi
</div>

The daughter of Nyx, Yoshi, assumed power. Yoshi was preoccupied mostly with reconstruction and stabilization. Martial law was enforced immediately following the Clover Rebellion and wasn't revoked until a referendum was initiated in 1612. With most of the public angry with Fod government Yoshi was coerced into loosening Fod government regulations and restrictions on commerce. The Fod market was officially opened in 1624, and private enterprise exploded. Instead of pleasing the public as it was intended to do, the open Fod market instigated capitalist associations. Around 1766 Yoshi's health began failing, and in 1788 opted for euthanasia. A majority of programs started by Yoshi failed.

Later Fod

Nokona, the daughter of Yoshi, assumed power. Unlike Yoshi who followed in the footsteps of Nyx, Nokona believed in a radically different philosophy. Upon ascendancy Nokona instated an instant laissez faire, laissez passer policy. The Fod government was dissolved and Nokona divied up state industry into private businesses. This instantaneous reaction upon ascendency was cheered by the public. For a while there was a general peace. This ended abruptly in 1804 when Nokona announced that Kay Medical would begin a hostile takeover of every existing business. By 1808 Kay Medical has acquired complete control of the market. With materials and services monopolized by a non-governmental, non-democratic entity, Fod was held under the most effective control in history. In 1989 Nokona hit menopause and declared regional war in The New Roman Empire. This was followed by a precision Rosian liberation. The regional war was averted. Nokona was displaced.

Modern Fod

Sacha, speaker of Cairo, assumed control in 2000. By this time the government was ineffective, business holding sovereign authority. A confidant of Sacha, Jordan, was forcibly installed as the executive of Kay Medical. (The institution of Kay Medical was dissolved, executive members incarcerated). With a friend in Kay Medical Sacha created Fodmodmadtol Administration-Corporation, a privatized government bound by contract to protect the citizen. In 2004 Sacha held the Fodmodmadtol populist election

Politics

Main article(s): Politics of Fodmodmadtol

Fodmodmadtol is a united empire, one nation with one supreme authority. The Cairo Paper is the document which establishes the current system of government, which established three basic governmental divisions, the Adel, the Duma, and the Baza. The Adel is the supreme authority which delegates power to the other divisions, the Duma which is a consultative legislative body, and the Baza which is a final arbiter in judgement of the law. Public opinion is focused almost entirely on the Duma, the only democratic facet of the government.

Society

Main article(s): Society of Fodmodmadtol

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">12117161328.jpg

Fodist cultural practices are steeped in religion and ceremony, often seen as stiff or stiff-collared. Traditional practices aside, Fodist popular culture is often viewed as wildly liberal. Morals are left to the person, not the government. Most industries considered blasphemous by other nations are legalized. Various cultures from across Fod contribute to its berth of cultural pluralism, many different cultures living together side by side. This creates a unique atmosphere in urban areas, such as Emulov, where one can enjoy Alto music whilst dining in a Soprano cafe.

Fodist's have a long tradition of embracing the senses. Intricate graffiti-art is displayed across almost every building, ranging from simple tags to grandiose portraits. It's common for a string quartet to be found on an urban corner or a flutist in the subway, as the government subsidizes musicians to liven certain areas. Several schools exist for the arts. The largest is the Cairo Institute of Aesthetics, which has several academies throughout Fod including the Institute of Eyes and the Institute of Ears.

Sasha

Sasha is an allegorical symbol of the empire which first appeared after the fall of Rjok. She's often portrayed as a woman wearing white, adorned in frosted jewels. Sasha is a representation of the peace and wealth of the empire's masses. Often used as a symbol of unity, Sasha is represented in statues in imperial offices. In recent times important figures have been bestowed with the title of Sasha (Sa.) by the Lord Chancellor. Sasha is featured on coins and stamps.

Religion

The Roman Catholic Church is the predominant religion of Fod, followed closely by Ali'a. The influx of the new religion has caused many natives to riot over newly constructed cathedrals, though tolerance is spreading as Catholicism continues expanding. Ali'a is the oldest established institution of Fod, with long ties back into history and firmly rooted followers. Following the Roman Catholic Church and the Ali'a Sect are Zor'a, Abrahamic, Gnosticism and Humanism.

Ethnicity

Soprano, Alto, Bass, Baritone and Marzipan are the generalized ethnicities of Fod. These names refer to a culture, not the pitch of voice. The generalized ethnicities are defined by where they trace their ancestry. Soprano's claim lineage from the Troj nation, Alto's claim lineage from the Pars nation, and Bass' claim lineage from the Rjok nation. Each lineage has distinct physical features. Baritone's claim lineage from nomadic tribes of Imo and Sek (Gabriel being mostly uninhabited before the Unitary Empire). Marzipan is a class created by society to define foreigners, derived from the Fod expidition to The Planet Mars.

Urban and Rural divide

The nation is divided into an urban union and rural union. As with all countries there exist major ideological differences between the farms and cities. Historically speaking, this has been a problem for the nation since prior to the unification. Originally this conflict started between the cities of Troj and the farmland of Rjok, and eventually progressed into warfare over economic need. Even after the unification of Fod the conflict continued. The farmland stopped shipping material to industrialized centers, and the cities withdrew investment from agricultural ventures. The economy stagnated under those conditions, and the government needed a compromise between the cities and farmland. The Great Compromise created the current unions, establishing a precedent of treating urban and rural areas as separate facets of the nation. Both the urban union and rural union have their own set of law and order. These are regions of the nation defined by population, density, area, and product.

All educational programs in Fod are regulated by the Consul of Truth. Instructors are employed by Administration and are consequently civil servants. The curriculum is the same for all Fod students in any given Cours. However, there exist specialized sections and a variety of options that students can choose. The reference for all Fodist educators is the National Truth Archive which catalogs all teaching directives. The school calender has two breaks, the month of Isis and the month of Maht, otherwise, the calender is completely uninterrupted. Most students have finished their year by Bastille Day. The school calendar is standardized throughout Fod Proper. Most, if not all teaching directives developed for the Fodist education system were developed under the authority of Doctor Freedman. Fod is divided into academies, or seperate school districts.

Cours Premierment

Cours Premierment gives children study skill, while providing lessons in social decorum. This Cours involves children and their parents, stressing the responsibility of everyone in the learning process. Curriculum includes the colors, the alphabet and the numbers. This Cours also takes learning outside the Academy.

Cours Deuxième

Academy Cours Deuxième is mandatory for children six to twelve years of age. Cours Deuxième is sectioned into two levels, Elémentaire and Préparatoire. The former is an important step in the educational process, as it is when children are introduced to reading and writing. Much akin to other educational systems, Elémentaire usually has a single teacher who instructs in many different disciplines, such as mathematics, science and history. The latter elaborates on the childrens' rudimentary knowledge, delving in an assortment of different mathematical theories, scientific methods and social studies. At this level children are given a choice of which study they would like to pursue. An intensive culture program is also introduced at this level, which makes available a slew of artistic and creative studies.

Cours Troisième

It is required that students attend Academy Cours Troisième. It continues with the knowledge base from Préparatoire into Classique. Into Cours Semester, however, the curriculum changes dramatically. A student has mostly free roam, able to pick and choose which studies to follow. It's required that students choose studies pertinent to success.

Cumulative Assessment Test

The Cumulative Assessment Test or CAT is an examination initiated by Fod in 2006 which, by definition, is to determine the state of a student's mind. The CAT is a required examination issued at the end of TERM. If a student fails they're sent to specifically designated education facilities, entirely separate from a standard academy.
