The Empire of Footballia or Footballia (Footballian: Oberep d Loçñjal) is a small nation in north Calania, in Atlantian Oceania, on the shore of Lake Bekk.
The economy is occasionally described as rampant capitalism, there being no restrictions on goods, few workers' rights and many monopolies or monopolistic situations. Many people are quite well off, even without welfare and many workers' rights.
The Footballian government is led by the Overlord, with a weak Forum and Chancellor providing supposed democratic processes.
Contents
History
The History of Footballia is divided into subsections, which should make it easier to read.
Ancient Footballia (????-1 BFE) discusses the Footballians before they came to Atlantian Oceania.
The Early Days (1-241) details the Tribal Era and the earliest part of the Empire.
Development of Footballia (241-473) tells of the Golden Age of Footballia and of that era and how the Empire developed internally.
Separation and Union (473-683) tells how some Footballians left the Empire to form their own city-states in Rorçn territory and of how they were conquered by the Empire.
Tensions and Dissention (683-893) describes the decline of the Empire before it adopted a Constitution.
The Post-Constitution Era (893-1211) describes the Empire after it adopted its Constitution and documents its next decline.
The Republic of Footballia (1211-1256) describes Footballia during the Republican Period, the (sometimes referred to as the first) Footballian Civil War and the Imperial Revolution (sometimes called the Second Footballian Civil War).
Modern Footballia (1256- ) describes the Empire after its restoration.
Geography
Footballia has very little geographic variation. Virtually the entire nation is a flat prairie, with the exception of the far east, containing a large mountain range and foothills. In the summer, the nation becomes very hot, with temperatures often approaching one hundred and five degrees Farenheit, while in winter the openness of the terrain allows for extremely cold temperatures, with the low being around minus twenty-five, although in the east it is nearly always below freezing and snowing.
Many parts of the Bekk coastline are sheer cliffs which gradually slope downwards to sea level as one goes farther inland. These cliffs are used for recreational activities, as are the canyons many rivers form as they flow into Bekk.
Highest Point: Mt. Football, 44,684 ft.
Lowest Point: Football Valley, -572 ft.
People, Demographics and Culture
See Also: Footballians, Demographics of Greater Footballia
The Footballian people comprise 95% of the population1, with the indigenous Rorçn living primarily in Rorçnyun and comprising about 4% (~10 million). The majority of the people (93%) practice atheism1, with Christianity and Islam as two other religions, in addition to the indigenous Rorçn belief system, which has about 4% of the population. Footballian is spoken everywhere, and is the official language. In the most recent census (2000), it was found that over 99% of the people can speak Footballian. Also, 89% of the entire population can speak two languages, 56% can speak three, and 28% can speak four languages.
Society

The above societal pyramid has remained constant throughout much of Footballian history, the only real changes being that recently aristocrats have declined in power, merchants are now more considered to be businessmen/industrialists and peasants are now factory workers. Also, warriors are considered less of a class now, modern military making such a distinction awkward at best. While soldiers still retain power and status, it is not the same as a horseman of old.
The Footballian pyramid shows one major difference from that of many other ancient civilizations: the power of the merchant class being equivalent to or greater than that of the aristocrats. Scholars are baffled as to the causes of this change from the norm.
National Holidays
Many of the national holidays are Footballian ones. There are no religious holidays endorsed by the government. Most Footballian holidays are marked by wild celebrations, especially in the less refined, non-urban areas. Constitution Day and New Year's Day are the two celebrated most wildly by the people.

Race Relations
During the existence of Footballia, there has always been a large amount of hatred between the Footballians and Rorçn. Initially, this hatred was encouraged and fueled by the Footballian government, largely based off of the fear that was rampant in Footballia until recently, the fear of a united Rorçn nation that would drive out the Footballians with their superior numbers. This is a large part of the reason for the quick growth of the population. While the government no longer encourages hatred, the ancient hate remains, resulting in poor conditions for the Rorçn and the fact that the province of Rorçnyun is by far the poorest of all the areas in the nation. The second-poorest, Xoçr, has roughly five times the GDP of Rorçnyun. When many visitors go into this territory, they are struck by the marked diffrence between that and the neighboring provinces.
Politics and Government

The government of Footballia is divided into four branches, the Imperial Branch, composed of the Overlord and his staff of advisors, the Executive Branch, composed of the Chancellor and his cabinet, the Legislative Branch, composed of the Forum, and the Judicial Branch, containing the Supreme Court and the lower courts.
The Overlord and the Chancellor share the position of Head of Government. The Overlord has final say over almost all decisions, while the Chancellor acts as an advisor separate from the Imperial Branch, although he has significant power in the Forum.
The Chancellor is elected every five years in a national election. He is not always the leader of his party, and the elections are more like that of the US for its President, except that the Chancellor is determined by the popular vote.
The forum contains fifteen representatives from the thirteen provinces of Greater Footballia. The representatives serve eight-year terms.
The Judicial Branch is headed by the Supreme Court, an 11-member group elected for life in a popular election. The Overlord, however, may contest an elected judge, and may have him removed if a two-thirds majority of the Forum votes in favor of it.
The official name of Footballia is the Empire of Footballia.
Law and Order
See Also: Law and Order in Footballia
Law and order in Footballia are different than in many nations. Rather than building and maintaining prison systems, prisoners are auctioned off for use by the highest bidding company on a yearly contractual basis. The companies are then responsible for feeding, housing, clothing and all other associated costs. Companies which are negligent have the criminals taken from them, and generally are banned from bidding for a certain amount of time.
The Flag
The flag is made up of three main colors, green, blue, and red, divided into three parts in the typical Footballian haphazard way. The green symbolizes the grass that covers most of the country, blue, the lake it borders, and red is the blood it cost the People to take the land. The star is there because it looks cool, and the black is because it looks cool also.
TANSTAAFL
"There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch", or TANSTAAFL, is the underlying Footballian philosophy, and one of a myriad of reasons for the lack of any form of social welfare.
