Background

Fort Boston is the capital city of Bostopia.

It was founded in 4CE by early settlers, who established it as their capital after it became the first permanent settlement in Bostopia.

It houses Fort Boston Castle, which is the official residence of Emperor Boston, the Head Of State of Bostopia.

Fort Boston has a population of 27 million, and also gives it's name to the state in which it resides.

Geographically, encircling the south eastern to south western side of Ranton (a sub-city of Fort Boston) is a large stretch of greenbelt, which still houses the ancient forest of Jaswich, which provided the first settlers not only nuts and berries en route from what is now Population Beach, but also a form of defense, thanks to the river that also runs through the forest.

Tourist Attractions

WARNING

As a precaution, the BTB (Bostopian Tourist Board) would like to make it aware to foreign guests that they more than likely to see people who are unclothed. This is entirely legal in Bostopia (with the state of Fenton being in a near-100% state of nudity, weather, location and health permitting), and any foreign visitor may engage in this practice to any extent they choose.

Committing sexual acts in public is a criminal offense. Please, keep this to private quarters, or very out-of-the-way areas of Fort Boston Park - it is regarded as a crime if the intent is to be seen in public, and police officers may give more leeway in the Park dependant on circumstances. For example, being caught after dark in thick woods is not likely to get you in too much trouble, if any. Being caught at noon on a day of celebration in the Park is likely to bring serious charges.

Fort Boston Castle, Plaza & Park

Fort Boston is home to the Bostopian Monarchy, with Fort Boston Castle being situated in the centre of the city. Fort Boston Castle has a plaza to the south, and it's defensive outer walls are surrounded by parkland on it's north, east and western sides.

Some tours are schedueled in Fort Boston Castle during selective days during the summer, but no visitors are allowed in rooms higher than the first floor (Fort Boston Castle officially has 6 floors, from Ground to Floor 5), for security reasons.

The Castle is protected by the Emperor's First Troop of Foot on a ceremonial basis, and they are seen in Medieval Battle Dress on public holidays. The Castle is also home to some of the most advanced security technology known to the region, along with a staff of more "traditional" security, who are largely unseen in the public eye, and their role is never fully explained, though it is known they do monitor the CCTV screens, as well as being first responders to any emergency inside the Castle.

The parkland (and Fort Boston plaza, to a minor aspect) plays host to the Fort Boston Circuit, used in the NS Formula 1 Grand Prix.

However, the motor racing only takes up one week of the year. For the other 51 years, the track is used as a service road - being closed to public access - for park personnel and emergency vehicles if required. The park is made up mainly of grassland and mixed forest, with some paths carved out by visitors over the years, leaving dirt trails, making it very barefoot-friendly. However, some paths are paved, to aid disabled visitors. In the centre of the park is a lake, through which the Ranton River runs. Laws in Bostopia ensure the river and other waterways are clean, meaning the lake is completely safe to swim in in the shallower areas. Other activities can be found on the lake, such as boat hire, and these are kept to seperate areas.

In winter however, the park can get very muddy, especially some of the trails, so wellingtons could become recommended apparel for some visitors.

The parkland is protected by law, and no buildings could be built on it after 1871, (with some exceptions, such as the building of boathouses) and only restoration work or rebuilding for safety purposes could be carried out.

Camping & Etc

Visitors are allowed to camp within a designated area to the north-west corner of the park. These areas have ready-built firepits, to ensure that damage is not likely to be done to any other area of the park. Due to the size of the park, it is unlikely that campers would be disturbed by anyone in the next "lot".

Other Attractions

Fort Boston is home to many museums on Bostopian history, along with two on regional history. Fort Boston is also home to many historic buildings, found mainly in the city centre, in the vicinity around Fort Boston Castle, as this was the first area of the city settled.
