OOC General Information

Free Pacific States is a major nation, both OOCly and ICly, in The East Pacific. He has resided there since his creation several years ago, served as Grand Vizier and EPIA Head, attended the Constitutional Convention, and currently serves as the RP Administrator and as a Barrister.

IC General Information

The Federated Alliance of Free Pacific States is a major power in the East Pacific Region. Although known for it's nuetrality and peaceful nature, FPS has recently begun to take on a more 'assertive' approach to international affairs. Currently, it is led by Matthew Terrus of the Centrist Party, who believes in compromise and cool-headedness in relation to all policies.

OOC History

FPS was originally spawned sometime in late 2002 or early 2003. After about a month, it's player abandoned NS for about half a year, returning to activity in the fall of 2003. After a short stint in the main NS Forums directly after his return, FPS registered and became active on the East Pacific's forums. Ultimately, he would abandon Main NS for the East Pacific, partially because he considered the East Pacific better, and partially because he was dismayed at the new jolt setup of the main NS forums.

FPS would quickly become a major player in the East Pacific, especially in terms of RP. After only a month, FPS would be given the position of RP Moderator in honor of his contributions, and in the fall of 2005, he would promoted to the position of RP Admin. He would be the first to serve in both of these positions.

Though without doubt a good RPer, FPS did not concentrate entirely in that field, however (just primarily). Whilst in the East Pacific, FPS would serve in a number of important positions. He would head the FPIA for two years (before turning it over to Vladistock Island) and serve as Grand Vizier (cheif advisor and first succesor of the Delegate) for around a year (resigning for several reasons in 2006). On several occasions, FPS would represent the East Pacific to international bodies and in international events (IE: the League of the Pacifics and the World Fair), and on several other occasions would defend EP policies in other regions.

Perhaps FPS' greatest non-RP contribution to TEP, however, was in relation to the EP Charter. Not only did FPS serve as a major participant in the East Pacific Constitutional Convention, but his words would actually bring about the convention itself. During negotiations, he would be the largest proponent of civil rights, and, at one point, even wrote a constitutional draft for consideration. Though the final convention participant to ratify the Charter (due to objections in regards to government power), FPS would ultimately declare the constitutional convention a success.

Today, FPS continues to serve as TEP's RP Administrator, and as Cheif Barrister of the EP Bar Association, and is a very active member of the EP community.

IC History (The Formation)

On September Third, 1925, the Treaty of Liberty was signed, bringing to an end the eleven year conflict which had spanned the seven nations that would later become the Federated Alliance of Free Pacific States. In total, the War of Zalebanian Sovereignty would take the lives of over one hundred and fifty millian to-be Free Pacificans, cause billions upon billions in property damages, and in general, diminish the lives of the two billion people residing in the seven states.

But as horrible as the conflict was, it will always be attributed one positive result: the formation of what would become the Federated Alliance of Free Pacific States. At the end of the conflict, all seven countries, and the majority of their populaces, were not only sick of war, but completly fed up with it. By no means, was this a sudden pacifist turn in belief: since the seven states gained independance from the Packilvanian Empire, they'd had warred one another on and off; the War of Zalebanian Sovereignty would simply be the large, finish push that would make war an unnaceptable solution to any problem in the eyes of most FPSians.

In order to appease their peoples, and to avoid another conflict, in March 1926, the leaders of the seven states met in Liberty City (a small but grandeur city in Faramount nearly unafected by the war) to discuss the creation of an organization based off the League of Nations, designed to facilitate discussion and diplomacy between the seven states. After agreeing in principle to the creation of the organization, the seven leaders set a date for another meeting in Liberty City to set out specifics for the international organization.

Four months later, seven representatives from each nation arrived in Liberty City, and, after re-affirming their respective nation's wishes to continue on with the creation of such an organization, began work on a Charter. In November, 1926, the convention released the Charter of the Alliance of Free Pacific States: before New Year's Day, 1927, each of the seven nations had ratified the Charter.

Thus began the first form of the Federated Alliance of Free Pacific States: the Alliance of Free Pacific States. Initially holding no more power then the modern United Nations, or the League of Nations at the time, the AFPS served no real purpose except to facilitate diplomacy and the avoidance for war. However, as the seven nations began to attempt to recover from the great damage done during the war, the alliance slowly began to take on greater responsibilities: coordinating reconstruction efforts, assisting in recovery, etcetera.

As time went on, the Alliance slowly gained in power and responsibility, as the seven nations began to reap the benefits of their cooperation. By 1935, it had been charged with the operation of an international post office (that could deliver mail without charge in any of the seven states), the linking up of and expansion of each nation's transportation systems in order to facilitate trade, the mediation of all disputes between nations (which the alliance now had the full power to make rulings over), along with several other responsibilites. Given time, the alliance might have slowly developed into something modeling the modern European Union.

It did not get that time, however, nor did it get the chance. In 1937, 1 Infinite Loop, which had been slowly expanding across the Pacific, launched a major attack on each of the seven nations of the alliance, using blitzkrieg tactics to quickly overwhelm the military forces of each of the seven states. By 1941, defeat was all but inevetible (despite the best efforts of partisan fighters), and four of the seven nations were considering surrendur.

In 1942, the representatives of each of the seven nations (two of which no longer had contact with their governments) agreed to invest supreme authority in the Alliance of Free Pacific States, creating the Unified Alliance of Free Pacific States. Over the next year, the remnants of the seven armies were quickly turned into one larger force, commanded by a government that wasn't looking out for the good of only one of the seven nations, but the good of all seven.

The move was a great success: immediatly, unified FPS forces saw extreme success, relative to the former seperated forces of which they were a part. However, it was, by far, too late. The year was 1944, and the Looplites had taken nearly 60% of FPS. In the other 40% of the country, little but agriculture (which the Looplites had refrained from attacking, out of a sense of mercy) remained: most of the industry had been destroyed, and few cities were anything but the rubble left over after daily and nightly 1IL bombing runs.

Given another year, at the outside, 1IL most likely would have had victory, despite the efforts of the Unified Alliance. But, like the Alliance of Free Pacific States, 1IL would not get the time it needed. On December 7th, 1944 (three years after 1 Infinite Loop's famed attack on US forces at Pearl Harbor), 1IL was set upon by the lizards, a space race who had similar imperial goals. Like the FPSians, the looplites fought hard and well: but to no avail.

Within months, thousands of Infinite Loop Military Personell were being withdrawn from the Unified Alliance, sent back to fight the lizards. As the Looplites pulled back, the Free Pacificans pushed forward, using every oppurtunity given to them to regain territory. In 1948, the 1IL invasion of FPS came to an end, as the last few 1IL troops were withdrawn. Three years later, after launching a small offensive campaign, the Unified Alliance of Free Pacific States and the Empire of 1 Infinite Loop made peace.

With the war over, the eyes of nearly every Free Pacifican turned to it's new unified government. In Liberty City, the representatives of each of the seven nations met and outlined a plan for deunification. The plan, however, never went through. After years of being fed propoganda in relation to defending the unified nation, the people of FPS had come to believe that the unified government was the best government. Most political theorists agreed, showcasing the many strides made (both internally and externally) by the Unified Government (especially the granting of universal suffrage from age 18 on in 1943).

In 1953, the temporary constitution that had been used to create the Unified Alliance of Free Pacific States was reconstructed into a permanent constitution for a permanent nation: the Federated Alliance of Free Pacific States. To this day, the Federated Alliance continues to rule over the seven former nations (now turned territories), with it's capital in Liberty City. In 1956, the first official FPS Government Election was held, with President Robert Taylor the nation's first leader, marking it's true creation.

Political Parties

  • Centrist Party: Created in 1983 as a response to the increasingly extremist views of the capitalist, communist, socialist, and isolationist parties, the Centrist Party dedicates itself to moderate beliefs and solutions to problems. As a result of it's moderate policies, it has ruled the electorate since it's first presidential election, in 1986. Although it has had numerous influential members, arguably the most influential has been President Matthew Terrus, who is currently serving his second term.
  • Hive Integration Front: The Hive Integration Front is the Pax Empire's lead group in the attempt to peacefully, or at least, unnoficially, assimilate Free Pacific States. Although it denies it's allegiance to the Pax, the HIF does not deny this fact: it admits openly that it's ultimate objective is to get FPS to join the hive. In the short term, it's goals are the return of complete FPS Drone Rights, and the improvement of FPS/Hive Relations. In the past, the HIF has been known to use extremely violent and illegal methods in an attempt to take over the FPS Government, and is only barely recognized as a political party (as opposed to a rebel group).
  • Nationalist Party: The Nationalist Party was formed during the FPS Hive Drone Conflict of 2006 as a result of the collapse of the majority of the original political parties. Cheifly based off the former Capitalist Party (with the cheif difference being the Nationalist's support of moderately conservative, as opposed to extremely conservative policies), the Nationalists primarily concentrate on international incidents. This is not to say that they do not pay attention to domestic issues (they do indeed push for a return to traditional moral values); Nationalists simply find national security and international affairs of greater importance then domestic affairs (so long as domestic affairs stay at the current status quo).
  • Liberty Party: The Liberty Party was also formed during the FPS Hive Drone Conflict of 2006 as a result of the collapse of the majority of FPS' leading political parties. Based primarily off the former Socialist Party (with the cheif difference being the Liberty party's support of moderately liberal, as opposed to extremely liberal policies), the Liberty Party primarily concentrates on domestic issues. This is not to say that the Liberty Party does not pay attention to international affairs; they are simply much more interested in domestic issues (so long as international issues do not effect their domestic issues).
  • Reform Party: The Reform Party is the spawn of the former Libertarian Party; it shares the beliefs of the comman Libertarian, and though much less extremist then the Libertarians, uses many of the same arguments. In general, the Reform Party wishes to reform the government back into something that will serve the people without threatening them.
  • People's Union: The People's Union is the revised Communist Party, having taken on more moderate beliefs to gather more support. In general, the People's Union supports the move to a communist society: however, it supports this move peacefully, over a great deal of time. It cheify gains support, however, not for it's ultimate political goals, but it's immediate political goals (which often support worker's rights).
  • Isolationist Party: All but collapsed, this party is deemed major only as a result of it's former power. Besides the HIF, the isolationists are the most extreme major party, supporting a total cut off of the US from the world. Uses normal isolationist arguments (we were better off before hand, the threat of war isn't worth it, etc.) to garner support.
