Overview

The Community of Free Socialist Wales is a very large, safe nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate population of 72 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is non-existant, with all business run by the government for the sake of Equality.
School uniforms are compulsory, a vast monorail network carries people all over the country, major cities are suffering under water rationing, and a government program is underway to revitalize Free Socialist Wales's beaches. Crime is totally unknown. Free Socialist Wales's national animal is the Red Dragon, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests and mountains, and its currency is the Pound Sterling. It's highest mountain is Mount Snowdon. It's capital city is Caerdydd (formerly Cardiff), and its primary language is Welsh.
Wales is most notable for its traditional mining industry, and a new interest in computing technology. Free Socialist Wales exports parts to various countries, and takes part in various aid schemes to boost computer literacy in developing countries.
Military wise, Wales has a massive airforce. It is currently securing the region of 0000000000_Soviet_Union, after the New Soviet Coalition invaded to liberate the people from it's capitalist leaders.

Politics

Free Socialist Wales has a highly Democratic Socialist government, with the eventual aim of acheiving an autonomous society with no need for control. The people of Wales are consulted on every major decision in government, and have the right to vote for or against small local issues if they choose. Because of this, the government is a republic-democratic hybrid, with the people electing politicians to represent them, as well as being able to have their opinion counted if they want.
There is only one viable political party in Free Socialist Wales, which is the Socialist Party, lead by Comrade Anessen. Comrade Anessen is often seen as a voice for the majority, rather than a leader. This is because the public are consulted on so many governmental decisions, to accelerate the progress towards autonomy. The Socialist Party doesn't deal with formalities much, seeing a lot of traditional governmental work as bureaucratic nonsense. This is to blur the line between government and public even further, by making politicians the sort of people that the public can identify with, and members of parliament are frequently seen in public places and use public transportation.

Public Services

Healthcare in Free Socialist Wales is totally free, with there being no private clinics allowed by law. This results in great health equality for the entire population, with each and every citizen, no matter how old or how popular, receiving the same amount of care as the next.
Public transport in Free Socialist Wales is extensive and well funded, with virtually no money put into the roads in comparison. There is a vast underground network that goes between Caerdydd (formerly known as Cardiff), Aberystwyth, Caernarfon and Newport, as well as electric trains that run above ground. There are rail links to nearly every town in the country, and busses make up for what the rails don't cover. A new monorail system was recently installed between Caerdydd and Swansea, and further expansion is planned.
All schooling is free in Free Socialist Wales. Students can leave school at 16, or stay on until they are 20 to get further qualifications. This is greatly encouraged, with the nations technology and science industries on the rise. There is also a world famous gallery in Caerdydd, inspiring the artists of Free Socialist Wales to train their skills further.
There are two government run airlines in Free Socialist Wales.

Cymraeg 'n Gydwladol Awyra Gwasanaeth (Welsh International Air Service)
Cymraeg Addef Awyra Gwasanaeth (Welsh Home Air Service)

There are separate international and internal organisations due to differing security levels.
The police forces in Free Socialist Wales are well funded, but reasonably small. Crime levels are extremely low, due to a mixture of efficient policing, rehabilitation and education tackleing the source of the problems. All standard police officers carry only a baton as a weapon, with firearms restricted to airport police, border guards, guards for goverment buildings and specialised armed anti-riot and anti-terror units.

Armed Forces

Free Socialist Wales is famous for the dedication of its citizens, and one of its main doctrines when threatened in the past is to quickly recruit soldiers from the civilian population. The Welsh Airforce however, is very well looked after, with some of the best pilots in the world flying modified MiG-25, MiG-29 and Su-37 aircraft. The airforce also uses modified ex-RAF Harrier VTOL jets in the mountains, due to the lack of good terrain for a runway. Mi-26 helicopters are used for transporting heavy goods, and have prooven to be more than a match for the often harsh climate in the central-northen Welsh mountains. All pilots are trained using specially developed hyper-realistic computer battle simulations, to develop help combat experience without the combat.
Overall, the Welsh defence strategy relies on using the terrain. Cities such as Caerdydd do not house important military or industrial centres, because they are designed to be abandoned in case of an invasion. Most heavy industry and manufacturing lies in the easily defended mountainous regions in central Wales. This makes central Wales a giant fortress, easily defended, until a counter attack can be put together.

History

Old Wales

By the year 2008, the conservative British government had undone the social policies put in place during the 1990's, causing great discontent among the poor. Unemployment in Old Wales was rife, with a now totally dead regional economy. Various groups had tried to open up new oppurtunities in computing and science, but there were not enough educated people to kick start the industry. People simply could not afford to train to the level required, because of even more education cutbacks by the conservative government. As a result, the number of people classed as living in poverty skyrocketed in 5 years, having no jobs, and hardly any money from benefits.
Groups such as the Welsh Communist Party rose to the occasion, rapidly gaining support among the poorer Welsh people. They renamed to the Socialist Party, so as not to seem to extremely left wing.

The Election

In the 2012 election, the Socialist Party were sure of victory in Wales, and hoped to make Wales more independant from the now hopelessly conservative English government. However, when the counts came back, the Socialist Party had received only a quarter of what they expected, with the Conservative candidate winning a massive victory. Foul play was suspect all around Wales, and discontent grew.
In February 2013, a man calling himself Comrade Anessen was voted to take over control of the Socialist Party, after its previous leader, Morgan Wythman died of a treatable cancer (according to his family, they couldn't afford the doctors bill to have it treated). Anessen took the party in a new direction, aiming to import weapons and secretly gain support in the large towns and cities. By 2014 it is estimated that 80% of people in Cardiff had some form of weapon and were associated with the Socialist Party.

The Great Revolt

In the summer of 2014, a Socialist living in Llandrindod Wells was beaten to death by a group of fascist fanatics, causing total chaos. The local Socialists resorted to violence, and set fire to all government buildings in the town, and killed 50 government employees. The chaos quickly spread to Aberystwyth, Newport, Swansea and Cardiff. In just 24 hours, the seat of the Welsh puppet government in Cardiff had been overturned, with Anessen's Socialist party claiming victory against the Conservatives.
It is estimated that 4,000 Welsh citizens lost their lives during the revolt, to 5,000 government employees, 10,000 police officers and 200 military personel.

The Aftermath

On the 24th of August 2014, England was officially split from Wales, as Anessen's Socialist Wales declared its independance. England threatened military action against Wales unless the Socialists surrendered within one week. However, the will of true Socialists is not easily broken. Within that week, Wales had a rag-tag army of 5 million people, mainly civilians, ready to fight to the death over the land of their fathers. England declared war against an army of civilians, and was internationally condemned. The European Union threatened action against England if an invasion was launched. Wales was quickly admitted into the EU and the UN, with the famous words:
"The Free People of Wales call out to the nations of the world, for guaranteed freedom from English Right Wing oppression. We have established our independance. On behalf of my country, I am here to tell the world that We are Free, We are Socialist, and We are the people of Wales, and that we will never surrender!" - Anessen
Since this day, Wales has been officially referred to as "Free Socialist Wales".

Freedom Guaranteed

2 days after war was announced, England called off the invasion. Germany and the New Soviet Union vowed to defend Wales, and even threatened the English government with nuclear war if they invaded. Wales was now safe. It had gained its freedom, its equality, and it got its identity back.
Wales later changed its official primary language to Welsh, and stopped teaching English as a primary language. Welsh now appears in the main text of road signs, with the English translation underneath.

Life Under Socialism

The Socialist Party set up a government devoted to helping the Welsh people, with heavy aid from wealthier countries such as Germany and Canada to set up an economy of its own. Heavy industrialisation resulted in a working economy, independant of England, within 4 years. Wales also built up a very strong computing industry, and soon started selling computer parts and loaning programmers to projects such as the European Space Agency, Soviet Space Exploration, Institute of Quantum Mechanics in Munich and at no cost to schools in various developing countries. These acts of international hospitality have earned Wales a lot of friends on the world stage.

English Revolt and the USEA

The events in Wales inspired Socialists and Communists in England and Scotland. Terrorist actions were being carried out against the British government by their own citizens, and the prime minister was nearly assasinated 3 times. 5 members of the Conservative party were killed when a buss they were being transported on was rammed off the road by an articulated lorry, and caught fire. Another 11 were killed in a series of fire bomb attacks against their homes by left wing radicals. The people of England had decided that they had had enough, just as the people of Wales.
The Conservative party, rather then be murdered, dissolved in favour of the New Communist Party of Britain. Relations were quickly repaired between England and Wales, but the Welsh government made clear that it wanted to remain independant from England. Transport and Trade links were re-established, and no passport is required to enter Wales from England and vice versa.
In the year 2016, Free Socialist Wales joined a union of Socialist and Communist countries, known as the United Soviet Eternal Area or USEA.
