In 2040, the United States commissioned a massive drill to dig a 1,700 mile deep hole to just above the outer core of the Earth. Many animals and plants thrived even at this depth, and the populations grew from just researchers to private citizens. Vulkanistan is the first and founding member of the Gaia Minor Separation And Unification Task Force (GMSAUTF) and was quickly followed by many other nations that saw the need for coming together in their underground world.
