Sacred Tree

Unusually for Errinundrian villages the sacred tree is not a eucalyptus but, rather, an araucaria named GABRIELLEN. The tree is displayed on the island's flag.

Discovery

Gaitan is the only village on the tiny, remote Cuttlefish Island in the middle of a tropical ocean far away from Errinundera.

It was discovered only recently and eyebrows were raised when the islanders claimed to be Errinundrian. Geneticists and historians pieced together the evidence and showed that the 60 or so inhabitants were all descended from 11 survivors of a cuttlefish research ship that went missing many years previously. The only female amongst those survivors was the famous Errinundrian footballer and oceanographer, gabriellen. The other ten were Japanese crew members of the ship.

The island is currently trying to encourage people, women in particular, to settle on the island in order to diversify the gene pool.
