The Asylum of Gigoland (also known as the Emirate of Gigoland) is an island emirate, and is the only known NS nation to lose and regain its ability to choose a unique prename. This is the consequence of a serious NS breakdown only a few hours after Gigoland hit the population of 500 million and the prename "Emirate" was changed by the Emir, and NS could only be fixed using earlier data. (Probably the same thing happened to nations founded the same day as Gigoland, but those are not known).
In NS Gigoland was founded on May 28, 2005. Gigoland was born in and is located in The West Pacific, but formerly it was member of self-created regions such as The Cauldron or the Gigo Empire.
It is important to state that Gigoland's population and the population shown by NS do not coincide. NS population only refers to how long the nation has been present in NS.

Geography
Terrain
Gigoland is an island. A few major and some minor islands surround the mainland. Largest islands: mainland Gigoland, Syonara, Dolah, Island Next To Dolah, and Exin. Total land area: 3,296,279 sq km (1,272,695 sq miles). There are high mountains in the central and eastern part of the island, named the Cascades. Somewhat smaller, separate block-mountains are found in the South, which are surrounded by swampy plains. The flat plain of the Lys river lies between the two ranges. Western part of the island is a hilly desert-like territory, while there is a large, scarcely populated plain in the North. The longest river is the Lys, 765 km (475 miles). Other important rivers are river Ë and river Y. The largest lake is Lake Sumihueron, 7882 sq km (3043 sq miles). Elevation extremes: Lowest point is the sea level, 0 m (0 ft). Highest point is Mount Kexberg, 6034 m (19,797 ft), in the Cascades.
Climate
Wet oceanic in the North and Northeast, often foggy and rainy. Average annual rainfall in these territories is 2500 mm, winters are mild but summers are relatively cool. Dry sub-tropical in the West, with very little precipitation. Southern and southeastern territories reach the tropical zone, with 1400 mm annual rainfall and high temperatures. Mean yearly temperature for the whole country is 21°C (70°F). Snow only falls in winter in the Cascades.
Flora and fauna
Gigoland can be devided into 5 parts according to the flora and fauna. Tropical rainforests are common in the South, in Toronterras, on the Syolaoli Peninsula, and in Syonara. In the North and in Halloway there are deciduous forests, while the western wastelands of Titania is home to only cactuses and desert shrubs. The Cascades are covered with pineforests, except the highest, icy-rocky level. The plain of the Lys river is almost totally treeless due to an intense agriculture. The panda is the most typical animal of Gigoland, and it is also the national animal. It lives in the block-mountains that tower above the jungles and swamps of Toronterras and Fithyum.
History
Ancient times
Little is known about Gigoland's distant past. Around 1000 AD, different nomadic tribes lived on the island. Only 2 of them are known, the Ihitri and the Laoli. A small number of people who identify themselves as Ihitris, still live in Gigoland, mostly in Syolaoli and Syonara. The Laoli is the peoples that the Gigo nation originates from. Throughout tribal wars, the Laolis became the most significant peoples of the territory, and they spread all over the island. In the 15th century the Emirate of Syolaoli came to existence, which included the southeastern third of the island. Until the 17st century it was the only organized state on the island, but then it gradually lost importance, and other Laoli-speaking states formed.
Early times
May 28, 1751 is the date Gigoland came to existence. Under the leadership of Captain Gigo Hebrentch 8 separate states united. These were Toronterras, Bedford, Wexford, Heteronotus, Vespiformes, Halloway, Titania and Unser. These eight are often referred to as the "Ancient States". Gigo Hebrentch named the new state after himself the Republic of Gigoland. It contained the whole island with the exception of the northeastern Muscom Peninsula and the northern ranges of the Cascades, and the southern Syolaoli Peninsula and the Syonara Islands, which were the remains of the Emirate of Syolaoli. After wiping out the separatist groups in 1751-52, no war was fought on the territory of Gigoland until the 2000 civil war. In February, 1801, the Emirate of Syolaoli ultimately ceased to exist, and dissolved into three states, Syolaoli (on the southern part of the peninsula), Fithyum (on the northern part of the peninsula), and Syonara (on the islands). All three entered the union on February 28, 1801, raising the number of constituent states to 11. On June 6, 1859, Gigoland agreed with the two remaining independent states on the island, Muscom and Taxeco, that they also enter the Republic. In 1898 the state of Foyer was created from a small northeastern part of Toronterras.
Modern times
On January 1, 1900, President Abelardo Kexberg abolished the republic. He decided to bring back the formality of the Emirate of Syolaoli, thus he created the Emirate of Gigoland. The constituent states became caliphates, with caliphs appointed by Kexberg himself. He declared himself the Emir of Gigoland. In 1914 the colony of Sexyco was founded in the extreme Southwest section of The West Pacific, and many people from Gigoland migrated there. In 1916 a new caliphate was formed among the mountains of the Cascades, from parts of Unser, Halloway and Taxeco, named Iscais. Throughout the 20th century Gigoland grew fast and continuously, and it became a well developed country. Between 1900 and 1970 tens of millions of immigrants arrived from all over the world. In 1996, former Emir Pierre Dupon resigned, and he appointed Henry Mieux to be the new leader. In June, 2000 a revolution broke out started by anarchists in the capital Villeuxmille, which ended up in a civil war. The Emir refuged to Generali Illi Polli, Unser, and it took about 4 months for the government militia to restore the order. On May 28, 2005, Gigoland entered NS.
Politics
After the death of Gigo Hebrentch in 1760, parliamentary elections were held every 4 years. This system ended with the regime of Abelardo Kexberg. Since that, Emirs were appointed by either the previous one or by the Congress. Gigoland is notoriously anti-capitalist and grants hardly any political rights, but extreme civil rights to its people. Political parties were re-legalized in 1984, but they don't play an important role. Gigoland was admitted to the United Nations on 29 May, 2005, but was later expelled from it along with the Big Frikkin Republic of Alaska Panhandle. Since that Gigoland and the whole Gigo Empire is represented in the United Nations under the name of the Oversea Territory of Sexyco. Gigoland was once a member of the Grand Assemby of The West Pacific, and the Council of The West Pacific, but quit them in October, 2005 as communication with the rest of the region ceased. Since then relations have been restored. Gigoland's closest ally is the Community of Hulvin, which borders the colony of Sierra Tierra in The Dim Forest region. Official name was changed to Asylum of Gigoland in 2006, but it still remains an emirate.
Demographics
Ethnic groups
Gigoland is one of the most diverse multi-race nations. Supposedly several races were present on the island in the ancient times already. Among the Laoli tribes that unified to be the Gigo nation we can find black, white, Arabic-looking ones, and a small number of others. The 20th century immigration highly raised racial diversity. Current ethnic groups of the population: African (black) 25%, Asian 23%, European (white) 18%, Creole 8%, Arabic 4%, Asian Indian 4%, Oceanian 2%, Native American 1%, Australian Aboriginal 1%, mixed 14%. Due to the high number of ethnicities and mixing variations, even Gigo demographers argue on what should count as a "race", and double and even triple and quadruple races are distinguished (for example the son of an Asian Indian male and a half-black half-white female is a triple race person). As this issue is quite popular among the people, the Gigo Ethnography Board was established.
Language
The official language is the Gigo. It is also the native language of the majority of the population, but takes up only 73%. Ihitri is the only other language that is native on the island. It is spoken by 2% of the population and is locally official in some settlements of the caliphates of Syonara and Syolaoli. As a consequence of the immigration one quarter of the population uses a different language in their homes, but more than 90% of these people speak Gigo too. These so-called "home languages" include English, Spanish, Chinese, German, French, Russian, Norwegian, Smarker, Karachunga and several others with a smaller number of speakers. It is compulsory to learn English and one more foreign language in schools, so most people are at least biligual, but trilinguality is not a rare phenomenon either.
Religion
Governments of Gigoland have always been more-or-less anti-religious. There is no state religion, and religious organizations are taxed since 2002. Since that officially there are no religions present in the country, although some Christian churches and Muslim mosques still function.
Administration
Administrative divisions
Gigoland is divided into 15 caliphates and the Capital Territory (or Terra'ux Capytalo in Gigo). The caliphates are: Bedford, Fithyum, Foyer, Halloway, Heteronotus, Iscais, Muscom, Syolaoli, Syonara, Taxeco, Titania, Toronterras, Unser, Vespiformes, Wexford. Unser has the largest territory, while Toronterras is the most populated. Settlements are cities or towns, the term "village" is unknown. Settlements with a population over 10,000 are usually considered cities, but this is not an official border line.
Government
Henry Mieux (officially His Majesty Henry Mieux the Emir of the Asylum of Gigoland and the Gigo Empire) has full powers. The Minister Council, a 12-member group of advisors, consists of the 12 ministers of the nation, each appointed by the Emir. The 30-member Senate is the legislative power, which consists of the Emir himself, the Minister Council, 15 senators of caliphates and 2 senators of territories. Each senator represents a caliphate, the Capital Territory, and the Oversea Territory of Sexyco, and they are appointed by the caliphs, and the governors of the mentioned territories. Caliphs and governors are also appointed by the Emir. Only majors of cities and towns are elected by the people.
Flags
Black, white and green are the ancient colors of Gigoland. Throughout the centureis they appeared in different order on the flag. The current version was adopted in 1900. Flag description: Equal size horizontal black-white-green stripes, with a red star in the middle. Black is color of people; white is color of peace; green is color of the land. The red star symbolizes the left-wing. Each caliphate, territory and dependency has their own flags, with the traditional three colors appearing on most of them.
Culture
People of Gigoland are party and music loving, funny people, but sometimes they are sarcastic. Concerts and carnivals are very popular. Most television and radio stations are state-owned, although a few private ones are also in service. Despite public transport is quite well equipped cars are very popular, thus driving in Gigoland can be dangerous due to often overcrowded roads and a lack of speed limit outside inhabited areas. Road traffic is on the left side (right-hand drive cars). Education is at a high level, literacy is practically 100%. Health is excellent, hospitals are among the best ones in the region, and it is a government business to look after wealthy foreign patiens in hospitals for high fees. Life expectancy is 77 years. National holidays are May 28 (Gigoland Day), and November 2 (The Emir's Day).
Economy
Gigoland is a developed industrial-agricultural country. Food industry and engineering industry are of the most importance, they are concentrated in larger cities. Industry and agriculture is almost wholly state-owned, and the few exceptions have tight relates to the government too. Unemployment rate is low, currently under 4%. National currency is the Gigolandic pax (GGP), which is worth 100 paxka (small change is no more used). Approximate value: 1 EUR = 126 GGP (1 USD = 98 GGP). GDP per capita is 18,850 USD (2006 estimate).
Dependencies
Gigoland has many dependent territories throughout the world. Gigoland and these territories together are often referred to as the Gigo Empire.
Largest one and the most important is the Gigo Oversea Territory of Sexyco. It has the same rights as caliphates. Sexyco permanently resides in The West Pacific.
Gigoland has 8 colonies. These are the Gigo Dim Forest Colony of Sierra Tierra, the Godforsaken Outback of The Disgracelands, the Gigo Satellite State of Kretchnung, the Gigo Satellite State of Smarkerland, the Gigo Satellite State of Angloxa, the Suicidal Reefs of Exit Australia, the Floating Isle of Kaskade, and the Ultimate Anarchy of Phallus Maximus. Sierra Tierra takes up about 75% of The Dim Forest region, while most of the rest are parts of The West Pacific.
There are two semi-independent republics within the Gigo Empire, these are the Very Cold Republic of Skogmark (region Spitsbergen), and the Big Frikkin Republic of Alaska Panhandle (region Alaska).
