In a nation of contrarians the people of Goolengook are non-conformist. This does not mean they are staid or agreeable. Rather, it means they are extremely vexatious. Goolengook is the protest capital of Errinundera.
Goolies refuse to elect a mayor and have never employed a magistrate. They have never been represented in the national assembly in First Creek Falls. They shut down the country's most profitable mine because it was a mine and dynamited the nation's largest dam even though the floods washed away parts of the city. Goolies led the 1905 revolution and installed the subsequent puritanical regime. They also led the 1941 liberation that overthrew that same regime.
In short, the rest of Errinundera adores them.
Some say Goolengook's Sacred Tree, MAMMAVASTA, was named after the legendary amamotoy.
The sister and brother revolutionaries, amamotoy and odo, were born in Goolengook. They led the nation in the peaceful demonstrations that culminated in the capitulation, on 7 December 1941, of the puritanical regime that had governed since 1905. The amamotoyodo University is named in their honour. It and the First Creek Falls Lyceum are the premier political science academies in the nation.
