People

The populous of Groznyj is fiercely loyal and patriotic towards their country, affectionately refered to as the "Native Land". Before the formation of the Republic much of the peoples now a part of it were ruthlessly persecuted and oppressed by their former leaders. In truth the people along with the leaders for change had to fight to make sure Groznyj wasn't killed in its crib. From then since the nation has grown much more poewrful and corruption is carefully watched out for.

Because of its size, Groznyj encompasses a large range of different peoples. Chechens are the most numerous, mostly situated in the Caucasus region but many have spread out either before or after the war. Conservative Chechens hold true to a strict morale and honor code praticed by their forefathers for thousands of years. It was the semi-autonomous Republic of Chechnya which rallied its neighboring nations to unite and rise against their oppressive powers in the first place. Most Chechens in Groznyj are more moderate and modern but still very respectable people. They are arguably the most patriotic of the peoples of Groznyj. The next larges general group of people are the Turks. Almost one in five Groznians is a Turk; lending to the nation a very rich and colorful culture. These people are situated mostly in the Annatolian Peninsula and around the city of Istanbul. The Circassians of Groznyj are another large group of peoples. Actually consisting of many different nationalities: Georgian, Dagestanian, Ingush, etc. they closely resemble Chchens in appearance. However one only needs ask or visit one's house to notice a big difference in culture. Altogether, sometimes reffered to as Karachay (part Turk/part Chechen or Circassian) these 3 groups of people account for most of the culture and types of foods in Groznyj.

Groznyj is also home to a large amount of people of European decent. Mostly German, Eastern-European, and some French, British, and Italian. The next group of people are the Russians. Although well noted in the history books the sruggle between Chechen and Russian, there is no hardfeelings between the two. This comes mostly from an understanding of the hardships both groups have had to face in the path. Living mostly in the north of the country, the Russian people are a hard working part of Groznian society; however there is still a drinking problem in the north, accounting for the majority of DUIs and alcoholic cases...

In the south of Groznyj there is mostly desert and highlands. The Arab peoples who have adapted and made a good living here account for a small percent of the population. Throughout Groznyj there are also a number of mixed ethnicities and peoples adding to the color of Groznian culture.

Social Issues

Although crime in Groznyj is less than moderate, some places being the exception, hands down the biggest thorn in the side of the law is the Mafia and its lucrative black market merchandise. There are two major mafias in The Republic: The Chechen Mafia and The Russian Mafia. The two have been at odds with each other for as long as time can tell and each one holds a small army of its own. The Chechen Mafia is centered in and around the Caucasus Region of Groznyj while the Russian Mafia holds ground far to the north where the Russian demographic is much more dense.

However, reccently both mafias have been able to make low profile agreements with the government. As long as things don't get too violent and a semblance of legality is kept up the law will not pursue both mafias mercilessly as it has done so in the past. This agreement was made between the three groups after a sting operation conducted by Groznian Special Forces managed to arrest the heads of each mafia as well as hundreds of other important members on both sides after taking advantage of a mafia war that was going on. The day is remembered by those close to the mafia as Black Saturday. 1843 mafia members died total that day either by fighting their opposing mafia or by the surprise attack by Groznian Special Forces.

Geography

Resources

The land of Groznyj is blessed with a bounty of an abundance of many different essential materials. The nation's supply of lumber is nearly infinite due to the size of the Great Forest. Metals are also in great supply. Other resources of Groznyj are its farmland, fishing, quarries, and coal. There are also supplies of oil. Even though they are large enough to support the country into the forseable future, they are left for the most part alone as reserves. Oil fields are in the southern deserts and some in the northern wastes. The Fadaeas Sea is host to offshore drilling.

Military

Introduction

National Guard

The Groznian National Guard fulfills the roles of defending the coastline and borders as well as community service projects and aid in disaster zones. Every able bodied male of 18 is required to serve for one year in the GNG. Women of 18 can also serve for college credit, help with tuition, and other benefits. The National Guard is open to any citizen who wishes to join. They are not sent to any foreign war unless the Army is in severe need of being helped. Those that join the National Guard are higher on the list to go to war if need be than the 18 year olds.

Army

The Groznian Army is split into three main corps; the Marine, Ranger, and Republic (regular) corps. The formation of each has stemmed from the need for different strategies associated with the drastically different terrains of Groznyj.

Republic Corps
The Republic Corps is the backbone of the Army. They are often reffered to as simply "Army". The Republic Corps serves the purpose as the main body of the Army, similar to the regular armies of other countries. As the regular army the Republic Corps provides the basics of Groznian Army training.

Marine Corps
The Groznian Marine Corps specializes in coastal assaults and establishing beach-heads, taking islands, and inflitrating on an enemy from a coastal position. They are closely associated with the Navy. Due to its versatile mission capability, the training required by the Marine Corps is a tier higher than that of the Republic Corps. Also enlistees tend to have on average higher IQs.

Ranger Corps
The Ranger Corps specializes in mountanous/desert/arctic warfare and actions in hostile climates aswell as operations such as paradrops and mountain-borne assaults. They can be thought of as the equivalent of the US Marine Corps, however coastal assaults are not their forte. They are closely associated with the Air Force. The Ranger Corps is the pinnacle of Groznian regular ground forces and as such is the most demanding of the three corps. It takes a special breed of man to sustain the harsh training and pass the hectic academic/skill courses required.

Navy

For many years the Groznian Navy had been a very small and overlooked part of the Groznian military. Focus was placed on training ground troops and airmen because of the ruggedness of Groznian land. However after the establishment of several colonies abroad the need for a navy became more apparent. But still the navy only held a small presence. It wasn't until the Groznian Navy's catastrophic defeat at the First Battle of Yeltsmin, where half the navy was obliterated outright by Kraven forces while defending the colony that the importance of the Navy was skyrocketed.

It was only after this that Naval Command made the decision to abandon its former policy of using soley traditional (RL) ships and to begin developement of Groznian war vessels. The plans and blueprints had already been layed out but funding was cut. However with new funding and pre-existing plans which only needed to be modified, Groznian naval yards churned out massive amounts of formidable warships in reponse to the sudden need.
