The Hammerian Guard is an elite close-quarters combat unit assigned to the Hammerian Capitol and the Imperial Quarters. Consisting of male Foe Hammer Marine veterans, the Hammerian Guard is the most feared group of soldiers in Foe Hammer.

Weaponry

A typical Hammerian Guard member carries with him, at all times, an R9 Energy Blade, in the form of a scimitar, to give the soldier a "warrior-like" appearance when standing guard. The R9 Energy Blade is activated when the soldier grabs the hilt of the weapon. A scanner in the handle detects a chip implanted in the hand of the soldier, the weapon is activated, and a glowing blade forms around the scimitar.

On some occasions, a cerimonial rapier may be used in place of the Energy Blade.

Under the cape of a Hammerian Guard soldier is a slung G27 Tactical Combat Rifle. Highly accurate and boasting single- and burst-fire modes, the G27 comes equipped with a built-in silencer and a rail on the end of the barrel can allow for mounting of both non-lethal (Taser) and lethal (bayonet) attachments.

Armor

The Hammerian Guard uniform is consistent among the different squads. The surcoat, red in color with ornate gold tassles, collars and accents, is made from thick fabric (to prevent puncture wounds), with the exception of the gold ornaments, which are produced from gold fabric. An additional undershirt, woven from electroactive polymers, act as muscles to more than double the soldier's strength. The undershirt also acts as a projectile-resistant layer, due to the polymer's ability to harden and form a splint upon detection of an incoming projectile. The thick surcoat provides for increased body temperature, which has been countered by adding a cooling microfiber lining to the inside of the coat.

The cape of the soldier's uniform hides a battery pack approximately 1.6 inches thick, lasting anywhere from 8 to 10 hours, powering the electronics embedded in the uniform. It also covers the soldier's G27 Tactical Combat Rifle when slung.

The helmet of a Hammerian Guard soldier is a layer of 24 karat gold, 4mm thick in some places, covering a high-strength plaster mold around a standard combat helmet. The shield located on the back of the helmet covers the soldier's hair to create a sense of uniformity, and acts as a neck guard to prevent blows to the base of the neck of back of the head. Two antennae act as a transmitter and receiver for each soldier's personal role radio. A one-inch square drop-down eyepiece offers a 800 x 600 pixel view of video or images transmitted to the soldier.

The pants and boots are metallic, which adds extra protection, while impeding the soldier's ability to pursue his opponent.

Tactics

Guard memebers are trained for four years in martial arts, both offensive and defensive, fencing, advanced marksmanship, nonlethal neutralization tactics, negotiation and psycology, and are required to learn English, Traditional Hammerian, Russian, and at least one other language of their choice.

Members of the elite Hammerian Guard units are trained to employ their tactics in three different stages:

  • Negotiation
  • Non-Lethal Neutralization
  • NAC (Neutralization at All Costs)
