Hans Schlabel was born to a working class family, the son of a mechanic. He had the fortune to be approaching adulthood when a war broke out, and when he joined the Imperial Air Force had a chance to become an officer and a pilot. In fact, he became a war hero, and managed by means of influence he had gained to get promoted after the war. His career fluorished, and during a stint serving at a foreign embassy he discovered he had a talent for diplomacy as well as war. Thus he was often chosen for diplomatic missions where a discerning military eye might be needed. This broaded his perspectives greatly.

He was chosen to be a liason with the Tsarainese delegate in the Conference on Religious Warfare. Following this, he was one of the principals in negotiations with Iesus Christi during the period of conflict with the Reich. When they broke down, he rose to the rank of Chief of Air Staff, and personally directed allied air operations against Reich forces attempting to invade Ienotheisa. In this greatest of Lavenrunz' military feats, he was instrumental in leading the allies to victory.

During the Chancellorship of Claudia der Waal, he became Minister for War. This he pursued with his usual excellence. When Claudia der Waal's government was ousted by the Christian Nationalists, he had a stint as Commander-in-Chief of Combined Forces in Ienotheisa.

The Constitutionalist Party approached him after Mirbach was indicted for treason and conspiracy to murder, and he agreed to run for office as Chancellor. Since his rise to this position he has mostly concentrated on reducing taxes and improving the economy. He has not neglected the need to make sure that national defence does not falter.
