Her Imperial Highness Princess Helena Palaeologa was the daughter of Emperor Demetrius III. She had two elder brothers, Constantine and Demetrius. When she was 18, her father married her to one of his generals, Sir Demetrius Comnenus, a Knight of the Order of the Pantocrator. Their son, Constantine was born in 1531.

It was only through the influence of Princess Helena on the behalf of her son that the future Emperor Constantine XIII avoided punishment for his debauched youth, especially for an incident involving a male prostitute (which resulted in a number of executions and blindings). Having been saved by his mother from the executioner's efforts, Constantine heeded his mother's pleas, straightened out his life, and eventually became one of the greatest of Pantocratoria's early emperors. Unfortunately, Helena didn't live to see Constantine's marriage or subsequent coronation, but she did live to see his reforms of the Knights of the Order of the Pantocrator and its appendages into an effective military force bring him partially back into favour before she died of a heart attack in 1560.
