News

Henrytopia recently celebrated Holiday Extravaganza, which was a great success. The people were able to enjoy time off to celebrate with their family and friends during the week long celebration.

Most recent news, the Henrytopian Commando Force was able to secure a blue ipod which is being displayed in the National Museum for all citizens to view and learn of the ills of big business.

Holidays

The holiday calendar is identical to the American calendar except they are all named 'Health and Inspiration Days' and the week long 'Holiday Extravaganza' takes place beginning the second Saturday of December.

Government

Although Henrytopia is considered a nation of democratic socialists, the country is governed by democracy. The government is comprised of The Senate, and the "Court of the Protectorate", which holds the jurisdictive power. Legislative power is in the hands of the Governing Council, while the Executive power is the held by The Protectorate, Henry. All elected leaders, regardless of their name, must take the title of Henry the Protectorate and remain so until they are elected out of office or deposed.

The term of the Protectorate lasts four years, but there is no limit to the number of terms a president may be re-elected. If a Protectorate has the mass appeal of the people, they can appeal to the Senate for an automatic extension of up to four years. Presidential candidates are appointed first by the parties. After the head of the party has approved a Protectorate candidate, he or she must also be endorsed by at least 20% in the Senate. To cut down on filibustering of a candidate, the Senate has passed a law limiting the number of rejected candidates to two; a party that has proposed two rejected candidates can appoint a third, bypassing any vote in the Senate.

Once the parties have finally all successfully appointed their candidates, registered voters of Henrytopia get to vote on the position of The Protectorate between these candidates. Since the Senate is usually dominated by two or three large parties, and only few splinter groups, it is often a close race between only two candidates, with the other candidates being given little or no consideration.

The members of the Senate are appointed after the first year of the Protectorate being in office. Senator candidates are appointed by the respective parties and approved by the Protectorate. Each party is allowed to choose as many senators as corresponds to their share of the popular vote, thus roughly each .2% corresponds to one senator.

The entire nation's people, from the age of 24 upwards, are eligible to vote, including immigrants who have resided there for a period of 4 years. Only natural born citizens of Henrytopia are eligible to become Protectorate, the issue is not allowed to be amended.

Military Service

Military service is encouraged for all citizens. Although not compulsory, upon graduation from high school, citizens are encouraged to serve in the national military service for a minimum period of two years or enroll in an institute of higher learning. Those who choose not to intend to enroll or qualify for admission to an institute of higher learning are then expected to enlist in the military service. In exchange for serving their country, citizens of Henrytopia receive full tuition without stipulations to any institution of higher learning that they are admitted to. In addition to their schooling, those citizens who serve receive free healthcare for themselves for the remainder of their life. This healthcare includes a comprehensive medical, dental and vision services plan. Those citizens who neither benefit themselves by furthering their education or serve in the military do not receive government assistance in any way, shape or form.
