Early History

A Nomadic Peoplegroup

For many years, there were no traces of Kampferian people roaming the plains in which they inhabit today. Then, around 4000 BCE, small clues of civilization began to be left behind. Small things, such as stone hammers and the like, began to be found. In 1956, Kampferian archeologist Albert Princeton discovered a grave site that is estimated to be from 3500 BCE. The oldest known gravesite, it contained the remains of a man inside a small coffin with no other decorations beside a small scroll with what is assumed to be the man's name, showing that the Kampferians of old had little regard for the afterlife. These Kampferians never founded true villages, but rather lived a nomadic lifestyle. In the time when most other civilizations were first grouping together into small civilizations, the Kampferian peoples were still nomadic herders, watching their goats devour the small roots of the trees and eat the grass. Some sects of the populace were less freindly, and made their living by hunting the animals raised by the others, as Kampfers lacked for undomesticated wildlife. These raids were detailed in cave paintings in the eastern and more mountainous sections of Kampfers, some of the first signs of Kampferian culture. Today, due to a lack of proper care, many of these cave paintings have been lost, and the remaining ones are strictly protected by the government.

Rise of City-States and the Kampferian League

The first recorded Kampferian civilization was a small city-state on the Ether River, slightly upstream of the current location of Kampfers Stadt, at circa 2570 BCE. The quality of life rose so much in that city that numerous others popped up all around the Gulf of der Stadt and along the Ether River. By the time that the 2nd millennium BCE came around, scholars maintain that a loose confederation of all the city states had been established, garunteeing the Kampferian city states dominance over the region. Although the name of the confederation was once a focal point for debate, recently discovered ancient documents dating back to these times pinpoints the name as the Kampferian League. By this time, the population had spread all over the area which is now known as Kampfers. Much like the Delian League found in the history of Greece, this League did not really establish any head of the confederation, which lead to its eventual downfall. Not only did this reduce any foreign aggression, but it also reduced tribal infighting, which laid a crucial foundation that all the governments of Kampfers would later stand on. Relics of this time remain, and can be seen in the architectural ruins along the beaches of the Gulf of der Stadt, and most notably along the outskirts of Kampfers Stadt.

Dissent in the League

Like all good things, the confederation came to an end. About 400 BCE, infighting began to plague the confederacy. The militaristic city-state of North Point, which ironically eventually became home to Kampfer's most prestigious military acadamy, was the first to abandon the confederation. After this, the city-state of Silvervale, fearful of North Point due to its close proximity, also withdrew from the league and formed a bilateral alliance with North Point, whcih became known as the Northern Alliance. Noting the weakness of the confederacy, the island city of Gantrickburgh, normally isolated, finally withdrew from the confederacy, long overdue in the eyes of many historians. Their isolationist policies had kept them from helping the league for some time before that, but due to the power held by the league, they had remained members. Now, however, they saw is weakness and seized the opportunity. It was at this time that the remaining city-states allied together to bring the rebellious chicks back into the nest. This resulted in the Kampferian War for Unification, which too is ironic in that the aggressors were repelled and the goal of unification failed. Defeated, these city-states remained allied and were able to hold off any opposing advances.

A Nation at Last

Unification

After the Kampferian War for Unification, the city-states remained at a fragile peace. The Kampferian League reorganized, creating a head of the organization and drafting up a rough constitution that remained the supreme law with only ammendments and addendums until Richtoff's reign. Eventually, with the lure of money, the city of Gantrickburgh rejoined the Kampferian League, which once again shifted the balance of power. After a few more years of this peace, the League decided they had taken enough. With a massive armada, they announced their intentions to starve the Northern Alliance into submission. In retaliation, the alliance declared war, sparking the Second Kampferian War for Unification. Though many events transpired in this war, three key battles shaped the final outcome. The Kampferian League summoned a massive armada and sailed it North to blockade the city of North Point. A large naval battle ensued, but the Kampferian League emerged victorious. Naal dominance secured, this allowed them to blockade both North Point and the entrance into the Ether River, cutting off both North Point and Silvervale from supplies. This forced the hand of the Noth Pointians, and as such they summoned a large army. Marching down the side of the Ether River, they did not expect to be hit until near Kampfers Stadt. However, this was where they were wrong. A small bastion of soldiers from the Kampferian League held their ground against the advancing forces a bit up the river. During this, a large number of soldiers donated by Gantrickburgh swung in behind the North Pointians and advanced on their unprotected rear. The enemy army routed, the Kampferian league next laid seige to Silvervale, and after it's fall, the North Pointian leadership surrendered. Once again, Kampfers was united.
