History of Toopoxia

The History of Toopoxia is split into two sections, both the creation of the ancient Volitaian civilisation and in the plight of the Lunians who both later became the modern Toopoxican civilisation

Pre-Dynasty Volitaia

Archeological evidence records a civilisation of highly advanced farmers being replaced by a hunter gatherer civilisation at around 10000 BC, the evidence reveals an early form of the sickle and other stone tools, in this time the Volitaian Desert was a rich farming land, however, possibly due to overgrazing, this farming land slowly became desiccated and formed what was called the Volitaian Desert in around 2500 BC, naturally the farming civilisation moved to the Volitaia River to continue farming in what was now a far more arable land.

Scholars have continously changed the views on Ancient Volitaia several times depending on the archeological evidence, many agree that the Nomadic time ended at around 6000 BC when evidence shows that people were constructing large permanant buildings and beggining to herd cattle, before the Desert had formed, the south western corner of Volitaia had become a booming center of civilisation, which as mentioned before slowly dissolved and fled to the Volitaia river.

The Pre-Dynastic Volitaian societies served as independent tribal entities, each trading and occasionally warring amongst eachother, the people of the Upper Volitaia being less advanced Hunter Gatherers,

Early Dynasty Volitaia

No-one can agree on a specific date of when the Volitaian dynasty came to power, most agree that it happened at around 3100 BC, at around the same time the Volitaian River villages merged into one power ruled in the city of Naibe, interesting to note that this city was originally called Volitaia, the name Volitaia also originated at this time, it is known that this name originates from the King known as Ak-Voli, Volitaia means "Peoples [belonging to] Voli"

The Volitaian state made an expansion which is well known due to its coinciding with the invention of writing, the borders expanded up to the Regi Luni Mountains in the East, Lake Luni in the South, Volitaian Sea in the East and what is now modern Hydac in the North.

Third Dynasty

Due to its unique position in the world Volitaia became a highly defendable state, after several defensive wars with neighbouring nations, which all failed, the nation turned its attention towards peace and trading, in this time of cultural expansion the civilisation built many temples and monuments which have become popular tourist attractions to this date.

Along with the cultural advances this time brought about political strength, the King was now able to call upon any slave thanks to the bringing about of a cencus which gives archeologists from today the ability to tell us that the population of Volitaia at around 1000 BC was about 26,000,000.

Rebellion and the Fourth Dynasty

This extreme population explosion mixed with the sudden drought of the Volitaia river led to a rebellion which resulted in the closing of the Third Dynasty and the seperation of the Volitaian provinces into seperate kingdoms each vying for power, many of these Kings refered to themselves as being the Fourth Dynasty each one believing that it would be their families which would unify Volitaia.

Due to a long period of intermarriage between dynastical families the situation ended up with the Lower and Upper Volitaian Kings each wishing to destroy the other.

King Ak-Nupai eventually unified the nation via a long military campaign which continued beyond the borders of Volitaia and through to many other nations including overseas colonies, The Capitol was moved from Naibe to Volitaia and a huge royal construction system took place, Ak-Nupai is often regarded as the best of the Fourth Dynasty Kings.

Hykosian Period

A Semitic tribe established in modern Hydac (possibly where the name derives from) began a military campaign to push back the Volitaian borders, they managed to sieze many of the Volitaian overseas colonies and broke through the tough borders of the nation using a new technology, the "War Chariot", The Fourth Dynasty ended with a Hykosian King ruling Volitaia.

The Hykosian Empire began to crumble due to corruption and unrest, many of the Volitaian provinces never returned to Volitaia and the area known as Volitaia fell into unrest, many of the improvements made in the third and fourth dynasties were destroyed, several attempts to again re-unify Volitaia failed without attempt and for hundreds of years the area remained in unrest.

Early Toopoxican Volitaia

The first governor of Volitaia, Lexin Greblosk brought Northern Volitaia under control by means of a highly successful tactic whereby he would ally different warring factions off against eachother, partway through the conquest however he was recalled by his sponsor, long time rival King Egleski of Smorrg, in complete defiance he continued the conflict with no assistence from the King.

When one of Lexins ranking commanders betrayed him at the battle of Al Miny he suspected that it was due to King Egleski, this sent Lexin into a rage and he issued a call for Egliski to be deposed, this further fractured the already tense relationship between the concerned Slavic Kings and the continuously notorious Lexin, in response an emmisary was sent to bring Lexin and his invasion force back to Smorrg without question.

Lexin defied orders once more and continued to move his forces southwards and enstated himself as King of these lands which he named Toopoxia in recognition for his ethnic background, unwilling to face a war with a popular and dangerous man the Slavic nations backed off, refusing to acknowledge Lexin or his new kingdom

The second King of Volitaia, Gaius Groblosk, made an unsuccessful campaign to invade Southern Volitaia, which would not be unified until King Lexin II, and Old Hykosia, after the failure of these campaigns Gaius began an internal campaign to rid the nation of natives and bring about his own cultural background.

In using often cruel systems of forced labour the population of true Volitaians was decimated, the resulting population loss severely weakened the ability of the natives to resist this quiet genocide.

Golden Age of Toopoxia

During the early few years of 1000AD the nation of Toopoxia flourished as a Kingdom, expanding its empire to include colonies in Asia (controlled by the Toopoxican Trading Organisation, later just the Toopoxican Organisation) becoming a major trading empire in the world, this nation flourished both economically and culturally and it is majorly due to these developements that this is known as the so called golden age of the Toopoxican Kingdom.

It was also in this time that the Slavic nations who had formerly shunned Toopoxia formally recognised the state which caused a decline in wealth amongst the Toopoxicans, immediatly following this came the sudden end of the house of Lexin leaving Toopoxia without a powerful leader and the future of the nation in jeapordy.

A quick Republic was created to seal up the power vaccum, however in its crippled state the Toopoxicans were forced into signing a naval treaty with Smorrg which hurt the trading power of Toopoxia and caused the Toopoxican Organisation to retreat to friendly shores, finally in 1052AD the Toopoxicans declared war on Smorrg concerning the naval treaty, the war was ended with the signing of the treaty of Volitaia.

Political Rise of the Toopoxican Organisation

Despite having a Legislative body to govern the area of Toopoxia there were many problems for the 200 years after the golden age, these varied from famines to wars with Smorrg in which much of the Colonial empire was lost, the Republic was hated amongst the populus who wanted a return to the Monarchy and amongst several Senators themselves.

The Toopoxican Organisation which had still been reeling from its wounds in colonial Toopoxia decided to take upon some of the Republics slack, this included openening trade routes with the neighbours of Toopoxia, utilising the Volitaia River to its full and forming a new uniform army based on skill rather than blood.

In this new Toopoxican regime the country managed to heal its wounds with Smorrg take back some of its lost territory and boost the goverment funds, however it also opened up hatred from the Republic who felt that they had been made redundant.

The 300 Years War

The Republic decided in 1312 that they had to end the Organisation, they released the issue to execute the Ibliski dynasty which ruled the Organisation and seize the assets of the group, unfortunantly no law-man could reach the Ibliski family which had the military firmly in its pocket, this sparked a war of treasuries with each side attempting to draw the military to either side.

The war officially began in 1323 when the Organisation siezed Volitaia and burned the republic house to the ground beleiving that this was the quickest way to control the nation, instead it caused a raising of Republican loyalists who sieged the City for 20 years whilst cities all over Toopoxia descended into chaos.

After this declaration of war there is little historical evidence to proove any major battle, most people were too busy fighting or too uneducated to write it down, what little evidence remains tells us that Gunpowder was introduced late in this war, and that it was due to the meddling from Slavic nations which caused this war to drag on for so long.

The Slavic nations obviously expected this war to completely destroy the nation of Toopoxia as they invaded the region many times during the closing years but failed to stop the war themselves, it is theorised that it was these invasions which caused the end of the 300 years war although the Treaty of Naibe suggests that the Organisation and the Republic came to a compromise in 1606.

Kingdom of Volislavia

After the fall of the Republic in the 1600's the middle Volitaia River came to be populated by the Mercantile state of Volislavia, midway through the 17th century the population converted to Orthodox Christianity which opened up trade with the Slavic nations of the North, in the wake of the Smorrgian conquests Volislavia was absorbed into Smorrgian culture.

Under Smorrgian rule the Islamic Church underwent a revival in Toopoxia with frequent migrations to and from Toopoxia, to the now Orthodox Islamic nation the Crusades seemed far more of a risk than the Smorrg, even the Organisation managed a return under a system more like the largest Corporations of the time.

Marcus Alexandrovich re-founded the nation of Toopoxia as the Principality of Volitonia, located in the city of Volitaia, eventually expelling the dwindling Slavic nations and absorbing the parent state of Volislavia and becoming the second Kingdom of Toopoxia under the rule of King Marcus II.

Early Modern Toopoxia

The people then had a fear that the Alexandrovich line may end like the Lexin line before it when Marcus II died leaving only his Daughter Tatyana to carry on the Throne, Tatyana became the first Queeen of Toopoxia.

Through much of her reign she needed to create a balance between the Native Toopoxicans and the Slavs trapped in Toopoxia after the fall of Volislavia, managing to offend neither but making crack-downs on the Slavs when a war with Smorrg loomed, the slave trade which re-established the colonial power of the Toopoxican Organisation can be attributed to Tatyana who gave permission to trade Slaves between the nation.

She later regretted this decision, being an awful bigot, by claiming that the nation was now full of these slaves, a proclomation was passed in 1682 which banned the transport of African Slaves to live in Toopoxia but allowed the Organisation to use the docks of the nation as a sort of storage location.

Perhaps her most stunning feat was in the defeat of the Slavic Powers Fleet whilst using a weaker smaller fleet, however the war which followed was most costly and carried on until the death of Tatyana in 1701.

The Yusefs and Civil War

Tatyana left no direct descendents but had a distant relative, Makhainus Yusef III of Smorrg, the populous were unwilling to concede to the Smorrgians but they had no choice except anarchy, Mikhainus was crowned as King of Smorrg and Toopoxia, immediatly after having been crowned the assassination attempts began, Mikhainus fled back to Smorrg and left the nation under the control of the Smorrg military.

The second Toopoxican Civil war broke out in 1721 between the Monarchists and the Organisation funded Republicans, during the opening days of the war the Monarchists had victory after victory, it wasn't until the Battle of Banini Sulief when the New Order Toopoxican Military struck a great blow almost completely destroying the Smorrg garrison in the Nation, it was only a short conflict ending 1742 with the Republican securing the country and beheading Mikhainus, replacing the Monarchy with a Republic under the stern ruling of Willhelm Iblisk.

Industrial Revolution

With the Republic restored and a slave trade assisting in the rise of the Organisation both politically and economically the Toopoxicans drove forwards into the Industrial period, securing viens of Coal in lands far in the North, Cotton from the Newlands in the East and Rubbers from the Southlands of Africa, beggining over the colonial power of Toopoxia, though more specifically the Toopoxican Organisation.

With this boom in Industry came a rise in the populations of Cities across Toopoxia, several previously unheard of Towns rose to Cityship overnight and a mass overhaul of Sewage and transport systems was needed, this increased the call for Engineers and suddenly you were no longer a hero just for your expertise in combat, this age gave rise to Engineers such as Ivan Augusta who designed the new Volitaian city and Sasha Britt who monopolised the Train service until he was bought out by the Toopoxican Organisation.

Included in the boom was the sudden increase in national patriotism and militarism, Toopoxia was going Empire building, the entire naval fleet was scrapped and replaced with Ironclads, Swords and Arrows were phased out for Rifles and the introduction of the standard Naval Blue Uniform, during the late 19th Century the usefulness of Oil was discovered and a drive came towards securing all Oil viens, suddenly Toopoxia took an interest in its neighbours which it had previously ignored, it went to war many times to secure the Oil rich nations but managed to get pushed back each time.

20th Century Toopoxia

After the excitement of the Industrial Revolution things slowed down for the nation, a more democratic charter was put into place in 1932, supposedly the most democratic in the world, the new Greblosk repbulic brought about a massive demilitarisation due to the economic crisis going about the world at the time, this left a lot of soldiers out of work, rallying under the banner of former General, Viktor Du'Font, the Du'Font rebellion attempted to sieze power, ultimatly the Du'Font rebellion was a failure due to pressures and assistence from other close nationalities.

Viktor Du'font escaped charge and decided that the problems would be resolved in gaining power through democratic means, about this time the Toopoxican Communist party began to rise in popularity, funded by Communist nationalities across the globe the TCP attempted their own uprising, siezing newspaper offices across Toopoxia the rebellion began, a lot of fighting took place to stop this rebellion and a lot of the old army members were drafted back into service temporarily, whilst the nation seemed to be about to crumble the Smorrgians attacked from the North and siezed the highly industrialised portion of the nation causing an explosion of the Toopoxican Dollar.

The Toopoxican goverment persuaded local workers to go on strike during the occupation, however the lack of profit coming from this area forced a swing in popularity towards Viktor Du'Fonts Nationalist party, Du'Font attempted a second uprising in which he was able to take over Volitaia Halls before again being forced back, he was then taken to be held in detention, he was given a cell overlooking Volitaia city in Volitaia minumum security prison, this showed a profound respect for Viktor by the people, whilst in jail the Socialists took power, it was an economic crisis as the Toopoxican Organisation fired any supected Socialist supporter on the spot, with a lack of work and the Organisation making less profit the number of unemployed reached a record of 12,000,000 people.

Viktor was released from jail in 1941 and immediatly put in his claim to run for office, the Nationalist party gained a vast majority of the vote, Viktor brought about the creation of the Toopoxican Military police to investigate suspected allegations of Communist treachery in causing the massive unemployment drive, many Communists or Communist supporters were either imprisoned or executed for their crimes, after this was over Viktor was able to pass a bill limiting the liberties for the Communist party and securing the power of Du'Font, the Military also marched into the siezed Smorrgian territory and liberated it.

in 1965 the Communist party fell leaving just the Nationalist party in power, Viktor closed down the Democracy, instead forming a dictatorship, this was his last action before he passed on power to his son David, Davids policies were shaped after the fear of socialist uprising, both in the turbulent region and across the globe, and the failure of laissez-faire economics, the general allowance of this sudden lose of power was out of fear from the Intelligentia of Toopoxia, David used this and made sure as to keep the Intelligent on his side.

This new Nationalist-Elitist heavy state was a contributing factor behind the rise in power of the Toopoxican Organisation and a driving force behind several overseas excursions by Toopoxia in order to benefit to the wealth of the nation, it wasn't until the Blackhelm Confederacy ratified the Corporate Alliance that Corporate warfare had really hit the world.

Toopoxia's activites in the Corporate Alliance heralded a massive push forwards both in technology and warfare experience, serving as an antithesis of the Global Alliance of Sovreign Nations the Corporate Alliance was active in well over 20 wars in just a short space of time, and within a decade Toopoxia had extended its borders with a colony in the region of Mediteranicca.

Second Toopoxican Republic

David Du'Font announced suddenly on June 27th that several of his personal staff would be laying down the ground work for a Toopoxican republic which would be immune to the corruption of people like Du'Font's father, this announcement was made amidst rumors of David Du'Font have contracted a potentially fatal illness, later determined to be an innoperable brain tumor.

Later on July 8th the Republic Building was re-opened and emergency elections scheduled, for the time being power was placed into the hands of the Pontifex Reagant Raexe Guria, his position in power was only meant to last for a week at most but was extended due to the decleration of war by King Mikhainus IV of Smorrg, fortunanatly the transition of power was relativly smooth and most departments of the nation were swiftly exchanged, only the Admiralty had difficulty in adjusting, eventually turning against Toopoxia and joining the Smorrg Kingdom.

These events led to the Fourth Toopoxican Civil War, surrounded on each side by Monarchist supporters and without a navy the nation relied on a war of attrition against the Monarchists, this boosted the strengths of the Toopoxican Organisation and allowed for experimentation into astral warfare, eventually the Toopoxicans overcame the Smorrgian fleets using this new style of warfare, Smorrg became a listed territory of the Toopoxican Republic.
