Hordapolis - a modern citystate

Hordapolis is a city state located on the west coast of the sub-continent of Hyper Nordica. In march 2006, the city previously known as Burgen, liberated itself from Nozwaiy. In the wake of this dramatic political change, the used-to-be greater Burgen experienced a major influx of population, mainly african intellectuals. Hordapolis is now a prosperous nation, already exceeding Nozwaiy's population.

The University

Central in downtown Hordapolis lies Universitas Burgensis. The old name is retained for nostalgic and practical reasons. The university teaches and conducts research in all acedemic fields and is internationally acclaimed. The current student count is approximately 200.000 served by an administrative and academic staff of no less than 57.000. In addition, the university retains 80.000 active researchers on it's payroll.

The principal decanus is the Pontifex Maximus Burgensis.

Pontifex Maximus Burgensis

The Pontifex is the state leader, principal decanus of the university, admiral of the navy and commander-in-chief of the airforce. The pontifex' ruling is undisputed. The current pontifex is Kare Spacetwat.

Military Assets

Hordapolis has a very impressive navy and a fine air force. During the revolt that lead to the emancipation, no less than 70% of the Nozwaiyian navy was anchored in Haaken Navy Base, located only 30 km from downtown Hordapolis. The vessels were annexed and are now, along with the base, property of the citystate. Most of the crew consists of ex-Malawian sailors.

The air force strenght lies in bulk cargo, the nation has a fleet of no less than 50 Boeing 737 that, unfortunately for the previous owners, were landing on the local airport during the emancipation. In addition, an amazing fleet of Cessnas serve as stealth interceptors. Most of the fleet oprate out of the major hub, Flussland. Some of the interceptors call to the smaller airport located closer to the border of Nozwaiy, Ozz.

Tourism and Recreation

Hordapolis is a thriving cultural centre in the region and anyone is eligable for tourist visas upon landing on Flussland international airport. The city sports a range of past-time activities. Most central to the avid traveller are the mountain tours arranged dayly, funicular trips to Mount Flüen and Mount Ülric. In addition, there are several organized boat excursions, most of them to the islands of Sütr and Äski as well as the nearby fjords.

For the nocturnal, there are several fine clubs and bars where having 200.000 students in a city comes to its rights in terms of a vivid partylife. Most recently, the nation's nightly activities were described by a Solitary Globe (TM) reporter as "a real punchpacker in the nuts". While drunken violence remains a not quite insignificant problem, most people settle their differences in more gentle forms of physical intercourse. Condemned as promiscous by religious leaders, Hordapolis will grant you a great night out and a little visit to the VD clinic the next day.
