The House of Representatives is the name given to the Lower House of Parliament of the Republic of Hochberg. Established in the year 1765, it is one of the oldest institutions of its type in existence. It is here that all legislation is discussed and written up.
As of 2006, the House contains 200 representatives, with the number directly linked to the size of the population. Members are elected via a system of Proportional Representation, with the Republic divided into four regions:
- Hochberg Central (inc. Talstadt & Flußdorf)
- Hochberg West (inc. Eichdorf)
- Hochberg North (inc. Kiefshalt)
- Sussex Peninsula (inc. English Harbour)
Each region elects a total of 50 representatives.
There are five parties with elected reperesentatives, these parties are:
- The Democratic Socialist Party
- The Liberal Party
- The Conservative Party
- The Green Party
- The Communist Party
Further to this, there are three independent representatives, who have generally been elected on local issues.
Elections 2006
At the last elections in 2006, the population of Hochberg re-elected the Democratic Socialist and Liberal Coalition into power, with Jürgen Klaus returned as Prime Minister.
