The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Kupfer is a German royal dynasty which succeeded the House of Sebrantke as grand dukes of Mecklenburg-Kupfer in 1862. The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Kupfer is a senior female branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, which in turn is a branch of the House of Wettin.
History
The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Kupfer came into being in 1862 when Grand Duchess Alix usurped the grand dukedom after the death of her husband, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III. Since that time, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Kupfer has been unchallenged as royal house, secured by five generations of male heirs and strict succession laws.
