The Hrydonian Army (also known as the Imperial Army and Imperial Hrydonian Army) is possibly the oldest member of the Imperial Armed Forces. Established shortly after the declaration of Empire, it was then used for the next 170 years against the Aboriginals, the original inhabitants of what is now Hrydonia. Since then, it has primarily defended the Empire and kept order.

The Hrydonian Imperial Guard consists of 1 corps of the Hrydonian Army, and serves as shock troops and guards of the Imperial Family or the Regent.

Weapons used

Flintlock muskets were used until approximatly 1862, at which time the few still in service were replaced by the Kingston 1861 rifled musket (similar to the RL Springfield Model 1861) and, among the Imperial Guard and certain units, the Henry and Georges lever action repeating rifle.

They were used off and on until their successors the Spencer and Kingston rifles were replaced by the Kingston 1900, which was based on the RL Mauser Gewehr 1898 and Springfield M1903.

The Kingston M1900 remained in use until 1945 as a standard infantry weapon and for another 20 years as a sniper rifle. In 1940, the M1 semiautomatic rifle was introduced, initially on a testing basis but eventually it became used by all units. In the 1980s the M85 (based on the RL SA80) was introduced, tested, and gradually became the standard rifle. By the 2200's, caseless ammo had been perfected, and the weapons carried on the expedition that settled the Kingston system for the first time carried the 9 mm M5 assault rifle.
