The Region of Hyrule is one of the largest player-created regions in NationStates. The name of the region comes from the fictional land in the Legend of Zelda video game series. As a neutral region, Hyrule does not join or make alliances and will accept nations of all kinds, regardless of political ideology, as long as they don't break regional or NationStates rules.

History

The Creation

The region of Hyrule was formed by the three godesses Din, Nayru, and Farore. It is widely believed that these three goddeses were created themselves by an ultimate being known only as the Supreme Creator.

According to legend, Din created the physical geography of the realm, Farore created the flora and fauna, and Nayru gave the laws of physics to the realm. Once the goddesses had completed their tasks, they departed for the heavens, and left behind them three golden triangles. Into these, they gave their power to govern all things; this became known as the Triforce.

NationStates History

Pre-History

It is possible that a region named Hyrule could have existed before Kholint created it, as the name is from the popular Legend of Zelda video game series. However, it is unknown if such a region existed before late 2003 or early 2004.

2003/2004

Hyrule was founded in either late 2003 or early 2004 by Kholint. However, as there was no regional forum, nor was there any form of government besides the delegate, there are little records of what happened in Hyrule during this year - the records that exist are from memory.

The region was founded before 30 June, 2004 by the nation of Kholint, the exact date of founding is not known. A small group of a small group of active Zelda fans also came along to join. Kholint became the first delegate of the region, who was most likely elected a few days after the region's founding.

It is known that the region was then seeking to create an alliance with the now-defunct region of Termina at the time (due to both regions being named after locations in the Zelda series), however nothing is known about that region.

Sometime around June 2004, the region was invaded, or someone tried to invade the region. However, due to the invaders griefing the telegram box of Kholint, they were deleted. Many nations, including Kholint, disappeared around this time. On 30 June, 2004, Tri-Hylians became the delegate - a posistion he would hold (with a brief interuption) until April 22, 2005.

Throughout the rest of 2004, the region was in relative peace. The world factbook entry also stated that there was going to be a map, however these plans didn't come to fruition until Ness Snorlaxia made one in 2005. The region also reached a height of 35 nations during the year.

2005

The year of 2005 marked a major change for Hyrule. Beginning in April 2005, the region of Hyrule saw many massive changes that would lead it to become a large, and rather known in the NationStates world.

January to April 2005

The first three months of 2005 saw life in Hyrule continue as it previously had in 2004. However, the population declined until the point Hyrule reached 19 nations. Things started to change at the end of March; Tri-Hylians, delegate at the time, set up an off-site forum for the region. However, it wasn't too popular at first - only three nations joined during the first few weeks of its existance.

April, however, was a month of change. The first of these changes was the creation of a reigonal map - which had been wanted for about a year. This map was created by Ness Snorlaxia.

The second major change was the beginning of recruitment. Someone who controlled a nation called "Hyrule Recruitment" posted ads on RMBs of feeder regions. Several nations who joined in this early period would also help out the region in its early days or growth.

Last, but not least, was the third major change: our region started diplomatic contact with other regions. The first region Hyrule made diplomatic contact with was Allied Union of Nations.

Sometime during the middle of the month, a nation called Spot became the regional delegate, however he did not want the posistion, and Tri-Hylians became delegate after he recieved 4 endorsements. The region remained in relative peace, and continued to grow due to the recruitment drive.

Regional Invasion

On April 22, 2005, sevral nations from the now-defunct region of Cotham and Cakeland came into Hyrule and endorsed a nation called Marionettles, who was the founder of the region. The nations that invaded said that they were fleeing from that region - though several nations saw through that ploy. According to one of the invader nations, they invaded because they saw that Hyrule was small and had no founder (at the time, Hyrule had approximately 40 nations and the delegate only had four endorsements).

Due to the delegate being inactive at the time, the invaders were not able to be ejected, and around 4:00 AM Eastern Standard Time on April 23, Marionettles became delegate. A few hours later, he ejected several nations who were against the invasion (who were kept on the banlist several hours after the invasion). Many of these prominent natives went to a region set up by a friendly nation from a foreign region.

Unkowingly to the invaders, a nation in Hyrule had a puppet nation. He or she used that nation to gather the regional password that the invaders set up, enabling defender nations to access the region. The invader delegate also was not active at the time, which also helped in gaining the region back.

The following day, early in the morning, the defender delegate of Toodeloo was elected to the delegacy. The banlist was cleared, the password was reset, and most of the invaders fled - the invaders that did not leave were ejected. One invader nation said that they would leave the region by April 27th, had the invaders stayed in the region.

Later in the day, the next delegate was chosen on an off-site poll. Ness Snorlaxia was chosen as next delegate of the region, she became delegate on April 25 and the confusion surrounding the invasion was over for the most part.

Ness Snorlaxia becoming delegate marked a major point in Hyrule's history and brought along many changes.

After the Invasion

After the invasion, order was returned for the most part, though the defenders still were in the region to keep watch and endorse the delegate. The defenders left by the end of April, when the region was in relative peace. One notable event was when Hyrule had 50 nations on April 26th, which made it able to be ranked on the list of largest regions.

This relative peace would not last long. An unknown invader group led by a nation called Juan Duarte attempted to invade the region. A defender nation warned Ness Snorlaxia of this, and the nations were ejected. A flurry of defender nations came to the region to endorse the delegate, though they soon left after finding out the invaders were ejected.

After that attempt, no other invader groups invaded and the region was in relative peace with the world, again. During May, embassies were opened with the regions of Q102 and Aberdeen, our second and third at the time.

The major event of May 2005 was when the founder of the region, Kholint, was revived. Later in the day, he came back from Lazarus (and became the 80th nation in Hyrule at the time). However, he would be inactive and his nation would die out again sometime in the middle of July.

The Second Half

June was basically a "slump" month for Hyrule, as we entered a recession during the beginning and middle of the month. June was also a month for change, as the basis for the law of the region was established. That month was also when Hyrule became allied with Aberdeen and established foreign relations with Futaba Aoi. It also marked low voter turnout in UN resolutions.

By the end of the month, the regional recruitment drive was put into full force, and the massive amounts of recruiting boosted the region's population over 100 for the first time - another monumental event.

July was a better month for Hyrule, as the region saw a huge population and activity boost. The beginning of the month saw the region's population go up to a high of 140 nations (for the month) and the establisment of an embassy in Scroll Islands. The forum also became much more active than it had been before, averaging about 50 posts a day at this point. The other half of the month was pretty much the same, the region still was showing growth. Two major things happened, though: The first was that Kholint ceased to exist, again, due to inactivity. The second was the region's second alliance, with the region Futaba Aoi. The remainder of the month went well, with the opening of an embassy with the Allied States of EuroIslanders later in the month, and another massive recruitment drive pushing the region to the 190 mark, and a high voter turnout in UN resolutions.

During August, the population of the region increased by well over 100 nations. The region broke the 200 nations mark on August 1st, and broke the 300 nations mark on August 22. August 2 saw the 100th day of Ness Snorlaxia's tenure as Delegate. The fourms were active and voter turnout for UN resolutions was at a high point.

The Remainder of 2005

September was a prosperous month, much like August. Forums were active, the UN voter turnout was high, and the region grew. However, the region did not grow as fast as it did in August.

October saw a change of pace. On the fourth of October, new elections to replace the mostly inactive government (June 2005 to October 2005). Parts of the 2nd regional government (October 2005 to February 2006) were confirmed on 19 October.

The region also reached a high of 390 nations on 8 October, however it did not attain this amount for long and soon dropped below that amount. After about 15 October, however, the population started to go in a major decline, dropping down to 369 nations. The region remained in the 360 range until about a week later, when the region would drop to 359 nations. Hyrule remained in the 350 range for the rest of October and the beginning of November. Late in the month, Gnid resigned from the posistion of vice-Secretary of State due to a dispute with Buuyo, the Secretary of State.

November saw a boost of activity. Elections concluded, and the final regional cabinet consisted of Buuyo (Secretary of State), China3 (guard general) Kritschboilek (Grand Judge), Pacdude (vice-Minister of State, Gifts and Frendliness, and Affairs), and South Malaysia (Minister of Affairs). The region and cabinet were quite active after these elections, although by January of 2006, this would not be the case. An alliance with Scroll Islands was also finalized during the month.

Although the population continued to fall during December, the forums were quite active, and the nations who participated in the community were, for the most part, active.

2006

At the beginning of 2006, Hyrule was one of the largest player-created regions in NationStates, and was quite different than it was a year earlier. 2006, however, would also see many changes within the region.

First Quarter

January and early February saw the same trends that continued in December - the population was falling, forum activity was increasing. Most of the members of the regional cabinet also left NationStates or became less active around this time.

At the beginning of February, the forums became more active. One major contributing factor to this was the Roleplaying forum - although it has existed since June of 2005, very few posts were made in it. Since then, the Roleplaying forum became one of the most active, if not THE most active section of the regional message board. This, and the cabinet inactivity, would necessitate the need to create a new regional cabinet.

Elections for the cabinet started on February 20th. Great interest was generated in these elections, as ministers would post on the Civil HQ in NationStates itself to encourage nations to vote. When elections concluded, the third Hyrule cabinet consisted of Flamaca (Minister of Roleplaying), Greater Mactopia (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Gnid (Chancellor), Kritschboilek (Judge), Porcu (Judge), South Malaysia (Chancellor of Justice), Southwest Prussia (Minister of Internal Affairs), and Tasmanyaya (Minister of Immigration).

Since the election of the cabinet, the region saw a huge activity boost never seen before. The region's population soared back to 360 nations, and 200 posts or more were being made on the forum per day (with help from the Minister of Immigration encouraging new nations to join, register, and post on the forum). Regional RP has seen an increase in quality, and many new nations began roleplaying. Also of note was the first regional court case (Hyrule v. FFC), which would eventually lead to that nation's ejection.

Regional Government

There are three of the regional government of Hyrule; the Delegate, the Cabinet and House of Members, and the Judicial Branch.

Delegate

The Delegate is, basically, the head of state of the region. As the region is (usually) founderless, the Delegate takes on the role of founder and serves in that role until he or she resigns, or is inactive for a certain period of time without notifying the region first.

The responsibilities of the delegate include voting on UN resolutions, maintaning regional security, and monitoring cabinet elections. The delegate, like all citizens of Hyrule, is allowed to participate in the House of Members but not allowed to run for a Cabinet posistion.

Before June 2005, the posistion of Delegate was the only government posistion. This is due to the region being one without a forum or any external site (until 15 March, 2005), and was mostly isolated from other regions.

Cabinet and House of Members

The Cabinet and the House of Members are the governing body of the Region. The regional cabinet is basically to help out the region, implement various programs, and to make sure that the region remains stable. The HoM itself is the body that proposes new ideas, and votes on certain issues that effect the region.

Cabinet Posistions (as of February 2006)

  • The Chancellor is the head of the regional government (similar to the prime minister of some regions, or real-life governments). The Chancellor oversees to make sure everyone is doing their jobs when need be (and report to the delegate when someone is inactive). The chancellor is also one of the two main moderators of the forum.
  • The Minister of Internal Affairs is one of the two lead moderators of the forum. The MoIA also helps deal with internal conflict within the region.
  • The Minister of Immigration is in charge of recruitment and encouraging new and old nations that aren't named Ness Snorlaxia to help recruit for the region. His or her other job is to encourage nations that come to the region to register on the forum and be active within the regional community.
  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs is responsible for recruiting new members to the ambassador team, encouring new nations to join the team, and making sure that ambassadors do their jobs (and remove them from their posistion if they don't). Also in charge of establishing relations with other regions, and making sure that embassies aren't inactive.
  • The Minister of Roleplaying is in charge of the roleplaying forum and ensuring that nothing goes out of hand. He or she would make sure that people follow the RP rules, and encourage new nations that want to get help RPing to participate in the Demo RP.

Judicial Branch

Prior to 5 October, the region had no judicial branch. Due to an amendment to the regional constitution proposed by a nation, and said amendment being voted for, the creation of the branch was authorized. The jobs of the judicial branch include that of making sure regional laws are followed, bringing nations who are causing trouble or breaking the regional laws to trial, and enforcing that ministers do their jobs.

There is one Regional Grand Judge, and two Judges. A new jury is elected for every case.

Foreign Affairs

As of 22 March, 2006, Hyrule is allied with 3 regions and has embassies in 13 regions.
