Ianapalis is the capital of Iansisle. It stands roughly on the spot of old Dûn Shadoran, which was sacked late in the Wars of the Shield. Ianapalis was founded, unsurprisingly, by High King Ian I in a fit of self-glorification soon after taking the title. Modern Ianapalis serves as the capital of Charles Bradsworth’s provisional government.

Although no modern census exists, Ianapalis’ population is estimated at between seven and nine million people. In addition to being the capital, it has a large natural bay and is the home port for a large portion of Iansisle’s merchant marine. There are also many steel mills in the eastern “industrial” half of the city, though most of the Shield’s industry is centered around the Daldon River basin.

Ianapalis is a city of contrasts. The sprawling eastern half - and here the term is used loosely - consists of smoke-belching smokestacks, the enormous shipyards which drive Iansislean maritime activity, and rundown tenement houses. The rich, well-maintained western half - a rough line is drawn at MacDunn Street - is home to the wealthy aristocrats who, until the Gull Flag Revolution, ran the country.

The provisional government is run from the marble halls of Jameston Place on the corner of Empire and Gallaga Streets. The King makes his residence off shore in Dûn Ádien.
