The Federation of Iberic States
Overview
The Federation of Iberic States is a small country located in Europa. Geographically, the country is mainly on the Iberian Peninsula, but also has the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands in the Atlantic, and the city-states of Ceuta and Melilla, in northern Africa. Castilian and Portuguese are the official languages in all the Federation, although some states have their own official languages (besides Castilian and Portuguese).
History
The Federation of Iberic States was founded in 1973, after the opressed people of Spain & Portugal decided they had had enough dictatorship. Terrorist actions, combined with two coups organized by the same antifascist groups, led to an overthrow of the dictatorships in both countries. The revolutionary assemblies, supported by the vast majority of the citzens, organized and held elections, legalizing all political parties, which had been banned in both countries (Estado Novo, Movimiento Nacional). A Federal Constitution was written, and the divisions of states were agreed, matching the regions aproximately. The flag was designed by a team of specialists, and it consists on a combination of the tricolour from the Spanish Republic's flag and the green from Portugal's flag, with 21 white stars representing the 21 states. It is said that green and blue are the traditional colors of Iberic Federalism.
